3 What is GRAIL-2? Overall project objectives The project is intended to define, develop and validate a GNSS-based ETCS application in High Speed Railway Lines, namely enhanced odometry (determination of velocity). The main research objectives are: Definition of the user requirements and system requirements for the application Development of a GNSS-based Enhanced Odometry system prototype Validation of the prototype Demonstration the application s safety requirements can be met by the system Roadmap towards certification Dissemination of outcomes. 4 Project outcome and main innovations The following outcomes have been obtained from the GRAIL-2 project: 1. User and system requirements of the end-user product. 2. Pre-industrialisation prototype, integrated in an actual HSL train: This consists of a UT integrated with an operational ETCS equipment, which could be easily transferred to other safety applications (virtual balises, train integrity etc) 3. The existence of live GNSS data from the train capable of characterising the railway environment. 4. Comprehensive safety case (including independent safety analysis), developing the topics needed for undertaking manufacture in a seamless fashion. 5. Progress on the certification issues for this application that will surely be useful for the introduction of EGNOS (and Galileo) in railways. 6. Development of Economic Studies to assess the interest and study the feasibility of using the GNSS technologies for the railway community, both for the high-speed market and also for the low-traffic lines. 7. Feedback from relevant stakeholders on the introduction of such kind of technology in rail. 8. To provide the appropriate instruments to disseminate the findings of the project among the railway community, as well as investigate the possibilities of further research or actual implementation and exploitation of these findings once the project is finished. The most important objective achieved during this timeframe has been to develop a prototype for enhanced odometry, not only for its potential exploitation with such objective, but also for the underlying lessons learnt about the integration of these two worlds (GNSS and railway signalling) and the broadening of the state of the art on the use of EGNOS messages to bring integrity in the harsh railway environment. 5 The final GRAIL-2 workshop Workshop Objectives The aim of the workshop is to: Present the outcomes of the GRAIL-2 project, including a live demonstration of the GNSS User Terminal capabilities. Identify fields of exploitation of the developments generated within the project and any feedback for future application. Questions to be addressed Do you envisage an application of the GRAIL-2 developments to your field of interest? If so, when? 6 Logistics information INECO offices Avenida de Partenón, 4 (EGEO building), Campo de las Naciones, Madrid, SPAIN From the airport (the easiest way metro/underground) By public transport Metro/underground: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, as the offices are directly connected by metro to the airport, and downtown Madrid. It is the third metro stop from Terminal 4 (Aeropuerto T4), or the first one from Terminals 1,2,3 (Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3). Simply take the pink line (line 8) and get off at the station called: Campo de las Naciones. Follow the attached maps to get to the EGEO building where INECO is located. Please be advised to account for extra time for all the connections to the new T4 Terminal. Travel to/from All Airport metro stations imply a surcharge of 3 per Ticket. By car or taxi (see maps) Coming from the Airport, take highway M-11. Take exit no 5. 7 only a few supplements that can be added to the fare, such as 5 to go to and from the airport. These supplements are described in the stickers located in the rear door windows ( tell the taxidriver you are going to Avenida del Partenon, 4, Campo de Las Naciones ) A taxi from the Airport to INECO premises in Av. de Partenón should be around 16. From the centre of Madrid By public transport (the easiest way metro/underground) Metro/underground. Coming from the city centre you have to go to the pink line (line 8 pink colour) and get off at the station called: Campo de las Naciones. Coming from the city out to the offices, you can take bus number 122 from Avenida America or bus number 112 from Mar de Cristal. 8 Entering Madrid from highway A-2 (N-II) (highway to Zaragoza and Barcelona): Take exit no 8. Follow the signs to Feria de Madrid, IFEMA (Madrid Trade Fair Grounds) and Campo de las Naciones. Follow the attached maps to get to the EGEO building where INECO is located. Orientation once you are at INECO premises: At the building reception desk, identify yourself as a visitor to INECO. You will be given a visitor s card and with it, you will be able to pass through the turnstiles. To get to the INECO offices, simply use the lift on the left-hand side and go to the 3 rd floor of the building. As you step out of the lift, you will see the INECO reception desk on your left. Access to Parking If you come in by car and you have been authorised to use a visitor s parking space, the entry to the underground parking is situated at the eastern end of the building, via Av. del Partenon (see maps below). At the parking entry gate, call the reception using the intercom on the small post on your left, and identify yourself as a visitor of INECO. INECO s visitor s parking places are numbered from 115 to 119 and are clearly marked ( INECO VISITAS ). They are situated on the entry floor of the parking, on the far right hand corner as you enter, facing the wall. After you descend the parking access ramp, follow the signs around until you reach your allocated space/s. To access the ground level, simply take the pedestrian exit situated in the centre of the underground parking. Take the lift up to the reception in floor 0, and follow the above mentioned directions to the 3 rd floor offices. IMPORTANT: For security reasons, authorisation to use the visitor s parking spaces is necessary prior to your visit. Please, send your request to your contact at INECO, providing your vehicle s model, colour and number plate. You should also confirm the availability of the visitor s parking space. 10 Hotel Accomodation There are different options for hotels in Madrid. You can stay in downtown Madrid or close to our offices, at your convenience. There are two hotels at walking distance from INECO offices. 11 Transportation in Madrid The underground (Metro). Madrid has a very modern and efficient underground system which makes public transport the fastest and easiest way of getting around the city. Trains run daily from 6:00am to 1:30am, you can either buy a ticket for a single journey or if you intend to use the underground several times a reduced rate 10 trip Metrobus ticket. With this ticket, you can travel ten times either in Metro or on the city s EMT buses, whether you chose the bus or the metro. A single, one-way ticket costs 1,50 minimum (max 2 ) and a "metro-bus or Bonobus ticket" (reduced ticket for ten trips) is 12,20. The Bonobus ticket may be purchased in the Metro ticket booths, in tobacco shops and newspaper stands of the city of Madrid and in the EMT kiosks. All Airport metro stations added a supplement of 3 per Ticket. Be sure to get a map of the metro from any of the ticket stations ( Bus: The EMT ("Empresa Municipal de Transportes" - Municipal Transport Company) has 150 lines that connect the entire Madrid city and outlying areas from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. There is also a night service, indicated with the symbol of an owl that runs from 12:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The same ticket prices apply as during the day. Tickets are the same as the ones described for the Metro. Taxi: The white coloured taxis with a red stripe in the front doors are plentiful in Madrid and can either be stopped in the street (look for an illuminated libre sign on the roof) or ordered in advance through one of the following major companies: Radio-Taxi.
