European and Asian Legal Studies POSTGRADUATE MASTER PROGRAM (LL.M. MASTER OF LAWS) Shaping and Steering of Cross-Border Transactions Program Content and Objectives The LL.M. program European and Asian Legal Studies (EALS) addresses a unique topic, namely the shaping and steering of cross-border transactions, and does so in every sense, from both the European and Asian perspective. The LL.M. program is based on the analysis of problems that arise in legal practice and solution-finding competences in the field of interdisciplinary comparative law. The participants of the course will acquire the necessary skills to understand and critically discuss all aspects of shaping and steering of crossborder legal relationships and legal transactions between Europe and (South- East) Asia. The curriculum will therefore enable students to deal with structures and elements of both European and Asian legal systems. Participants will also deepen this fundamental knowledge with a series of advanced courses on various specialized topics. Participants will gain valuable qualification and experience for legal careers in the area of international transactions. Qualification Profile The program will provide graduates with advanced on the job training for subsequent legal activities at the interfaces of European and Asian legal regulations in the area of cross-border transactions in relevant international companies, international organizations, NGOs, but also public bodies. It also provides qualifications for the preparation of a relevant dissertation/other research project at postgraduate level, or as preparation for research work. o. Admission Criteria The following admission criteria must be met: Applicants must either hold a basic law degree (min. 180 ECTS i.e. 6 academic semesters), or must hold a basic degree (min. 180 ECTS i.e. 6 academic semesters) in another field of studies relevant for the program and have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience. Applicants without either English as their first language or a degree from a full academic program in English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. Degrees Target Group The course is aimed at graduates who are qualified in corresponding academic disciplines, and who wish to prepare for doctoral studies or a postdoctoral qualification in law or related subjects. The course is also directed at those persons from the public and private sectors and/or international organizations with an interest in cross-border transactions between Asia and Europe and its practical relevance in their field of activity. Finally, it is also generally available for those legal practitioners, who wish to further familiarize themselves in this specialized area of legal skills, knowledge, and research. The LL.M.-program offers the opportunity to study within an international group of students from Austrian, European, Asian and international law schools. Through a planned structure (2 semesters, full-time), the program especially addresses recent law graduates who have completed their primary degree and wish to continue their education and specialize before entering their chosen career path.
