Why Study Aerospace Engineering? Deciding Your Future

A Global Industry A booming market with thousands of manufacturers and investors worldwide. The industry is dominated by major companies in the USA and Europe. The largest companies Boeing and Airbus with annual revenues in 2014 of $86bn and $78bn respectively.

Industry Leaders UK companies Rolls-Royce and BAE are 10 th and 12 th in the world in terms of revenue. USA is the largest market share, followed by the UK and Russia. In the Asia Pacific region, Japan are the industry leaders.

Aircraft Deliveries (2015-2034) Global Industry Demand It is predicted the industry will need: 38,000 new aircraft 200,000 new aeronautical engineers New Aircraft Deliveries by Region (2015-2034) 558,000 new pilots 609,000 new technicians

Meeting the Industry Demand

Aerospace Engineering in the UK

The Aerospace Industry in the UK Of the estimated 38,000 new aircraft until 2034, UK will contribute considerably in their manufacturing and life cycle support. The UK is one of few countries with the resources to design and manufacture advanced helicopters. The global demand for this is expected to be worth $165bn/year.

The Aerospace Industry in the UK With a high demand for aerospace engineering globally, the UK is quickly becoming an important contributor. 3,000 COMPANIES 230,000 EMPLOYED 6.8% PREDICTED GROWTH IN NEXT FEW YEARS

Aerospace Engineering in Wales

The Welsh Aerospace Industry A significant investment has been made to boost infrastructure, skills and promote economic growth across Wales. ITV News September 2015 The aim is for Wales to generate 5% of the UK space industry by 2030. BBC News, July 2015

The Welsh Aerospace Industry As the sector grows, there will be an increase in demand for a skilled workforce providing excellent career opportunities for professionally qualified graduates. 160 COMPANIES ACROSS WALES 23,000 EMPLOYED IN WALES RIGHT NOW 2BN PREDICTED GROWTH OF WELSH INDUSTRY

We offer a full range of aerospace engineering degrees. Designed to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the aerospace industry. BEng (Hons) Aeronautical Engineering MEng Aeronautical Engineering BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

What is Aircraft Maintenance? CONTINUING AIRWORTHINESS When an aircraft is manufactured it is built to a strict regulatory and performance standard. Aircraft maintenance is the complete process of maintaining these standards to ensure safety through a structured program of auditing and maintenance checks that are authorised by a European aviation regulatory authority EASA.

What is EASA? EUROPEAN AVIATION SAFETY AGENCY An agency of the European Union (EU) with regulatory and executive role in the field of civilian aviation safety. They regulate the industry within Europe and further afield and they issue the approval for individuals to become licensed aircraft maintenance engineers (AME s).

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at the University of South Wales TWO AWARDS: 1. It is a BSc Honours degree a professional engineering degree course. 2. EASA Part 66 Category B basic training course Part 66 is the regulatory requirement needed by individuals to certify aircraft as airworthy under EASA s remit.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at the University of South Wales We are the ONLY University within the UK to offer these two awards combined and delivered solely in one Higher Education campus. We have partnerships with world leading organisations British Airways offer our students the opportunities to gain some practical hands on exposure to live aircraft. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-34554576

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at the University of South Wales Part 66 Category B Basic training at the University of South Wales is an EASA approved training course meaning students who complete the course in full will benefit from a reduction in the time required to gain the category B licence. This IS the quickest route to gaining an EASA aircraft maintenance license.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at the University of South Wales Academic team - 20 persons with diverse qualifications, professional backgrounds and expertise in the aerospace industry. Student : teacher ratio on BSc Aircraft Maintenance Engineering of no more than 28 : 1 reducing for practical sessions to no more that 14 : 1 (EASA regulations).
