3 Shannon Aerospace Shannon Aerospace is a 100% owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG, the leading (manufacturer independent) provider of maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification services for civil aircraft. Employing 500 people at Shannon Airport in the West of Ireland, Shannon Aerospace specialises in performing Heavy Maintenance checks on short and medium range Boeing and Airbus aircraft types. The Shannon Aerospace Aviation Training Department, with its EASA Part 147 approval and over 20 years experience, is one of the most respected training schools in the industry. It specialises in providing students with EASA Part 147 training to category A, B1 & B2 standard as well as typespecific aircraft training on Boeing and Airbus narrow and medium range aircraft. The company has an unrivalled heritage in supporting students through their training programs to become highly competent and motivated aircraft technicians, engineers and professionals. The Programme The Bachelor of Technology in Aircraft Maintenance and Operations is a four-year honours degree offering a unique blend of academic and industry-focused content, designed to equip students for senior positions in the aircraft industry. Besides obtaining their degree, students can also satisfy the basic knowledge requirements for the EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance License in category C, through EASA Part 66 examinations administered by Shannon Aerospace (a fully approved EASA Part 147 Aircraft Maintenance Training Organisation). This will give them a unique advantage for progression into senior roles in aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul organisations. In contrast to some competing programmes offering the EASA modules, this programme contains a substantial amount of high level engineering modules taught by UL s renowned Aeronautical Engineering academic staff. This allows maximum flexibility on graduation. Graduates may choose a career in the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul business, or the aircraft operations business, including aircraft leasing and asset management; or because of the strong engineering content they would also be in a position to undertake a master s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, which would allow a career in aircraft design and manufacturing. Students will be based at the University of Limerick throughout their four years, availing of the outstanding on-campus facilities. They will also gain an unrivalled exposure to the aircraft industry, through interactions with highly experienced Shannon Aerospace tutors on the EASA modules (see programme structure), and extensive on-aircraft experience in a live maintenance environment at the large Shannon Aerospace base maintenance facility, just 30 minutes from UL. Internships with Shannon Aerospace Shannon Aerospace will offer two paid one-year internships to top-performing graduates at the end of the programme. This will be a fantastic opportunity to gain part of the experience requirements for the EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance License in category C.

6 The Aviation Industry and Ireland Ireland is an extremely influential player in the aviation industry. Over 40% of the world s commercial aircraft are actually owned by leasing companies, not airlines, and this is projected to grow to 50% by Half of the world s leased aircraft are owned by Irish-based companies (representing over 83 billion in assets). These firms are the aircraft manufacturers biggest customers and as such have huge influence in the aerospace industry. Ireland also has a large Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry, and the largest airline in Europe (Ryanair). In Belfast, Bombardier Aerospace employ over 5000 people, specialising in major aircraft structures including fuselages, wings, engine nacelles and flight control surfaces in metal and advanced composites. The aviation industry is expanding at the rate of over 5.6% per annum and through to 2020 there will be a need for 150,000 new Aviation Engineers world-wide. Career Opportunities B,C... 7 UL Entry Requirements Academic Entry Requirements International students are required to hold an equivalent qualification to the Irish Leaving Certificate or A levels (UK system). Indian Students Indian Students are required to hold Standard X and XII secondary school examinations with an A,B,C... average grade of 70% or above. Subjects taken must include English, Mathematics, another language UL and a science subject. To meet the English language requirement Indian students are required to have an average grade of 65% or above in English in Standard X and XII examination OR an IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 6 in any component. 8 by Nekludov A,B,C... UL Tuition Fee and Scholarships The annual tuition fee is approximately 15,000. Scholarships worth 25% of fees (around 3,800) are available for this programme and are based on academic merit. Students do not apply for the scholarship, once they are in receipt of an offer letter for this programme they will automatically be considered for a scholarship. Where will I live? UL has superb accommodation on-campus for international students. There are six residential villages on campus offering 2,500 rooms. Each village has a resident Village Manager with 4/6/8 single study bedrooms per house. There are computer links available in each room and students receive free internet connection. On campus accommodation is an excellent option for international students as it offers an opportunity to meet Irish students and other nationalities and to enjoy all our superb campus has to offer, e.g. sports facilities and clubs and societies activities.
