DCIS Special Agents are entrusted to investigate cases of suspected criminal activity committed against US government military organizations, employees, by persons or companies contracted to the US government, or others. The work of a Special Agent requires intensive investigations often worked in cooperation with multiple agencies/organizations. Agents must apply a thorough knowledge of search and seizure procedures. Agents handle evidence, and apply legal guidelines to build investigative cases. Duties include: interviewing witnesses, suspects and others; may involve providing witness or expert testimony in legal proceedings. Agents are also required to prepare reports of findings and related documents. DCIS Investigative Priorities are: Procurement and Acquisitions Fraud, Product Substitution, Cyber Crime, Technology Transfer and Health Care Fraud. SPECIAL NOTES:

DUTIES: Back to top The incumbent of this position is a trainee criminal investigator assigned in a developmental capacity to a DCIS Field Office or Resident Agency; receives training and guidance on investigative methodology, techniques and policies; and performs the investigative duties associated with that position under close supervision. The employee performs investigative duties involving persons and property under the charge of DoD pursuant to Federal Statutes and applicable DoD Directives.

Minimum Requirements: To be eligible for an Special Agent position; you may qualify by education and or experience that is related to experience in the criminal investigative or law enforcement fields that involved the application of laws relating to criminal violations. Education may be substituted for experience. GS-5 - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university or 3 years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4 that demonstrates the ability to: 1. Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; 2.Plan and organize work; and 3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. GS-7-1 full year of graduate level education from an accredited college or university or superior academic achievement (SAA) SAA is based on class standing - upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision; grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better as recorded on transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, or membership in a national scholastic honor society or one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 that demonstrates skill and experience applying, basic inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and procedures; applicable Federal laws and regulations; and practices common to business, public institutions, and other entities in order to select, gather, and organize information from various sources such as databases, witnesses, informants, or Federal, State, and local agencies; perform routine tasks to support the inspection, investigation, enforcement, or compliance process; inspect documents for accuracy and compliance; establish preliminary findings; and prepare reports. GS-9 - master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 that demonstrates skill in and experience applying, inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and methodologies; laws, regulations, guidelines, and precedent decisions; requirements of various legal jurisdictions; and practices common to industries and entities regulated by applicable programs. These acquired knowledge and skills must be demonstrate skill to independently perform duties such as: identify sources of information to detect illegal activity and document issues or probable cause; conduct investigations using accepted methodology and problem solving techniques; take statements from witnesses, third parties, and other knowledgeable persons; research, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data and information to make appropriate recommendations; and prepare reports and technical information.
