Installation Guides - Information required for connection to the Goldfields Institute s (GIT) Wireless Network Wireless Network Names and Credentials There are two wireless networks operating at the Goldfields Institute: one is available to staff and the other for students. When you configure your network connection you must enter the appropriate name (or SSID) for the account you intend to use. To log in to GIT's Wireless Network, you must use your appropriate credentials. The SSID to use and the credentials required to be used are listed below for each type of account: ACCOUNT TYPE: SSID TO USE: CREDENTIALS TO BE USED: Students: GIT-Student Student ID (44*******) and password Staff: GIT-Staff Staff ID (VT******) and password Please note that you can only connect to your applicable SSID i.e. staff can only connect to the GIT-Staff SSID and students can only connect to the GIT-Student SSID.
Connecting Windows 7 Devices On Windows 7, and on most of Windows versions, the wireless bar is located at the right hand side of the system bar, close to the system clock: Click on the icon to bring up the list of available connections: 1. Click on Open Network and Sharing Center that should take you to the control panel network management utility: 2. Click on Manage wireless networks to take you to the wireless network utility.
3. In the wireless network utility window, click Add to add our Wireless Profile. 4. The Manually connect to wireless network wizard will come up. Click on Manually create a network profile : 5. In the Manually connect to a wireless network window, enter the following: a. Network name: GIT-Student b. Security type: WPA2-Enterprise c. Encryption type: AES d. Confirm that Start this connection automatically is checked. e. Click Next and select Change connection settings.
6. Click on the Security tab of the Wireless Network Properties 7. Click on the Settings button 8. Uncheck the Validate server certificate if already checked and then click on the Configure button on the same page
9. Uncheck the Automatically use my Windows logon name if already checked and then click on the click on the OK button. 10. Click on the OK buttons until all the configuration pages are cleared.
Connecting Windows 8 Devices On Windows 8, the wireless bar is located within the Settings section (Swipe screen from Right to Left to display this) 1. Click on Settings and Available to bring up the list of available connections:
2. Select the GIT-Student network and click on Connect to be able to join the network. 3. Input your credentials here (44***** and your computer password), then click on the OK button. 4. Once the user authentication is completed, the device will be connected and displayed as below
Connecting Android Devices 1. Turn on the Wi-Fi switch on your device and a list of the visible networks will be displayed similar to the below 2. Click on the GIT-Student network and a new screen is displayed. Keep all the settings as shown in this image. Input your student number (44******* and your usual computer password) in the Identity and Password fields of the screen.
3. Click on the Connect button for your device to connect to the Wi-Fi 4. Once connected, you should have a screen similar to the below with a status of Connected
Connecting Apple Devices 1. Turn on the Wi-Fi switch on your device and a list of the visible networks will be displayed similar to the below 2. Click on the GIT-Student network and a new screen is displayed. Click on the Join Network button. Input your staff number (VT******* and your usual computer password) in the Username and Password fields of the screen.
3. Click on the Join button for your device to connect to the Wi-Fi and click Accept to accept the Certificate displayed. 4. Once connected, you should have a screen similar to the below with a status of Connected
