NEURO-PHYSIOTHERAPIST POST JOB PROFILE Job Title: Salary: Neuro-Physiotherapist (initially 12 months fixed term contract) Band 6, 26,000 pro rata, 16 hours per week Accountable to: Neuro Physiotherapist / BodyBASIC Manager About BASIC Registered Charity No 518806 The Brain And Spinal Injury Centre (BASIC) is a registered charity affiliated to the Greater Manchester Clinical Neurosciences Unit at Salford NHS Foundation Trust. A holistic programme of activities at BASIC includes provision of information & education about acquired brain injury and its recovery, psychological and emotional support, cognitive rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, self development, lifestyle information and advice, power-assisted exercise facility, virtual rehabilitation facility, volunteering, a working training cafe and social activities. The charity employs twelve staff in order to provide a variety of services at the Centre for approximately 700 clients a year.
BodyBASIC is the charity s Power Assisted Exercise facility where clients are given a personal prescription of exercise. It also houses the Yougrabber and Berkell Bike. AIR (Accelerated Interactive Recovery) is the charity s virtual rehabilitation facility that incorporates the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (or CAREN), the DynSTABLE and Re-Gait. Further information about this equipment can be found on the charity s website at www.basiccharity.org.uk Job Summary The post holder will work with the current Neuro-physiotherapist to deliver a high quality service using the charity s Power Assisted Exercise facility and virtual rehabilitation facility. You will provide physiotherapy assessments and re-assessments for people with acquired brain injury including stroke, head injury, brain haemorrhage and long-term neurological conditions such as MS and Parkinson s. You will plan appropriate exercise and rehabilitation sessions using Power Assisted Exercise and the virtual rehabilitation facilities. You will be expected to work within the policy framework of BASIC (Brain and Spinal Injury Centre) in its provision of specialist services for people recovering from acquired brain injury or living with long-term neurological conditions by contributing to the multi disciplinary team to ensure the aims and objectives of the organisation are met. As a member of the multi disciplinary team, you will demonstrate a professional and proactive approach providing clinical practice and advice. You will actively participate in improving the service and support future developments. These may include delivering presentations. You will act in accordance with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Conduct and the Health Professions Council. Although this is a comprehensive job description, you may be required to undertake other duties assigned by your manager. Duties - Communication Maintain records on Filemaker Pro database to facilitate communication with the team members within BASIC.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in a wide range of situations, e.g. 1:1 therapy presentations for groups of staff/clients/multi disciplinary team workers. Act sensitively and where appropriate act in the role of advocate in order to enable clients to undertake informed decision making. Develop effective working relationships within the multi disciplinary team in order to provide effective co-ordinated care for clients. In consultation with your line manager represent the organisation in a physiotherapy capacity at external meetings as requested. Take responsibility for communicating changes in an effective and timely manner. Record information identified by the organisation for statistical reports. Duties - Personal & People Maintain your own clinical professional development (CPD) to facilitate the provision of an up to date evidence based physiotherapy service within the organisation. Actively participate in BASIC s individual performance review process to identify your own learning needs and take necessary steps in order to reach personal/professional objectives. Contribute to the development of virtual reality throughout the organisation by participating in clinical support and development within the rehabilitation team. Utilise staff support systems as appropriate. Practice in accordance with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Conduct and the Health Professions Council and ensure that your professional registration is maintained. Work in accordance with BASIC policies to ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times e.g. safeguarding vulnerable adults at BASIC. Duties - Health, Safety & Security Work in accordance with BASIC s information, policies and procedures. Attend mandatory training as required by your manager relevant to your role. Actively engage in the organisational incident reporting system.
Undertake risk assessments e.g. environmental, individual Ensure the process for basic maintenance and cleanliness of equipment is undertaken. Ensure the process for faulty equipment is followed and reported Duties - Service Improvement Contribute and participate in organisational development of rehabilitation services. Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of power assisted exercise service and the virtual reality service at BASIC Duties - Quality Be aware of and work in adherence to the National Standards and requirements of the Care Quality Commission. Effectively manages a case-load of referrals, in conjunction with the neuro physiotherapist, to BodyBasic and the virtual reality machines liaising with the appropriate staff within BASIC Organise and manage your own workload, ensuring it reflects core components of the job description. Role in BASIC With your Line Manager and identified others, contribute to the identification of practices relevant to your role that could improve service delivery outcomes through: audit research evaluation education/training user involvement Actively engage in the incident reporting system where there are issues relating to the quality of service provision. Assessment & Treatment Planning Assess and identify appropriate exercise plans Following patient assessment and utilizing appropriate outcome measures instigate the plan of intervention and review effectiveness Assess moving and handling requirements for clients attending BODYBASIC gym Interventions & Treatments Develop an individual plan of care to ensure that appropriate management is maintained at all times. Monitor the individual s response to interventions/treatments and review the effectiveness of same. Provide feedback to multi disciplinary team on the effectiveness of intervention and at future dates with other stakeholders Provide and monitor the virtual reality intervention for the Yougrabber for upper limb and weakness following stroke. And the Berkel Bike for wheelchair users and spinal cord injuries.
