Strathkinness Primary School February 2016 Dear Parents / Carers It was wonderful to see so many parents recently attend the PTA meeting. The ensuing discussion generated a lot of positive ideas which will benefit all the pupils in our school. Again we are very grateful to the pupils and parents who recently worked with the staff on reviewing our current managing Positive Relationships Policy. The Great Strathkinness Bake Off On the 9 th & 10 th February all classes scrubbed their hands and put on their aprons and baked with Mrs Stothers. They went through the process of preparing, reading the recipe, weighing the ingredients and baking right though to packing them up to sell at the Bake Sale. The classes even made colourful pictures to advertise the sale in room 2. We would like to say a big thank you to those parents who donated yummy treats for us to sell. All monies raised will go towards the school fund. Enrolling Primary 1 Pupils Can I encourage all parents to enrol their children as soon as possible as it will allow schools in the madras cluster to get an idea of class sizes for session 2016-2017. If any parent needs advise on how to enrol their child into the school please feel free to contact Mrs Fraser in the school office on: 01334-659442 Weather advice The school will use the Fife Council School closure system to inform parents of closure to the school. Primary 6 Science, technology, Engineering & Maths This year two of our Primary 6 children, Ben and Eleanor have been very lucky to be have been chosen by The University of St Andrews to take part in Space School which gets them involved in all aspects of space. Saturday 20 th of February sees Ben and Eleanor enter the world of Chemistry. They are both looking forward also to meeting the astronauts and they are very excited and happy to be taking part. Wednesday 17 th February A big Well Done to four of our Primary 6 / 7 pupils who attended the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes along with 118 schools from across Fife. The quiz was based on books that the children had to read and answered questions on the book. Halle from Primary 6 said she felt very nervous when it was their turn to answer the questions. We will find out soon where they ranked on the day. Super effort team! Halle Woodcock Primary 6 This is a Primary 6 project based on renewable energy which will last for 6 weeks. The class is spilt into 4 groups and each group have been asked to design and make wind turbines using recycled materials. Over the weeks they will also design posters to advertise it and let people know what our wind turbines can do for our environment. The children will finish of their project with a PowerPoint display. This sounds like an amazing project and we can t wait to see what the children come up with. Good luck Primary 6. Easter thoughts - Tuesday 16 th February The classes have been very lucky to have a visit from the Revered. The Rev. McCafferty talked to us about the meaning of Lent and getting ready for Easter. He explained what Jesus has done for us and the things we can do throughout the feast of Lent like helping others, just like what Jesus did for us..

New Pupils A warm welcome to our new pupils Ben and Harry Richards. We hope you enjoy your time at Strathkinness and I m sure you will make lots of new friends. Thursday 25 th February 2016 The Primary 1 & 2 class have had some (what will be cute) visitors to school this week. Dr Spencer has been delivering some hen and quail eggs in an incubator. The children will be watching them closely on the lead up to their furry lives in about 18 days. Infant Class Update Although the weather has been rather bleak over the past few months, better weather is on the horizon! I thought I would share a few of the Outdoor Learning activities we have undertaken so far this year. Outdoor Learning helps pupils develop a range of skills. It helps to promote a healthy lifestyle and develop positive attitudes to the environment, so we have undertaken cross curricular work including PE, maths, work in the school garden, looking at minibeasts and planting and harvesting of vegetables. Some of the class have also been engaged in Eco activities such as bird watching, litters picks and visits to the community garden. We have also had excellent trips on the Enterprise Weeks. When the weather brightens we will be able to increase our activities outside and any volunteers to help would be appreciated. Mrs Jackson We are all very lucky to experience this and the children can t wait to see them hatch. Watch this space for some furry pictures very soon. Jonah Primary 2 I have never seen an egg hatch before so I m very excited. Isabelle Primary 1 I am this much excited (opens her arms as wide as possible).
