Yu'll examine the differences between LANs (Lcal Area Netwrks) and WANs (Wide Area Netwrks) and see when t use each ne. Brief histry f cmputers and netwrks What is a LAN? What is a WAN? When d yu use a LAN? When d yu use a WAN? Mdule Tw: Understanding the OSI Reference Mdel The OSI Reference Mdel prvides a means f understanding the fundamentals f netwrking. It describes hw data flws acrss a netwrk. When yu understand the OSI Reference Mdel, yu'll make better decisins abut equipment purchases and cnfiguratins and yu make fewer mistakes with yur netwrk. In this mdule, yu'll learn what it is, hw it wrks, and hw it's significant in even the smallest netwrk. Yu'll even learn clever mnemnics t help yu remember each f the layers! Understanding each f the seven layers Using the OSI Reference mdel in netwrk design and trubleshting Mapping equipment and prtcls t the apprpriate layers Mdule Three: Cmmn Tplgies and Cnnectin Optins This mdule will help yu understand hw netwrks are cnnected. Yu'll examine the different tplgies, with a fcus n the mst cmmn nes. Yu'll see hw different cabling strategies are used based n the particular needs f each netwrk. Yu'll als gain a gd understanding f hw and when t use wireless netwrking, plus yu'll learn the critically imprtant warnings abut wireless netwrking. Star tplgy Tree tplgy Mesh tplgy Wireless tplgy Netwrk cabling ptins Netwrk architectures Types f cables
Cnnectin rates and terminlgy Mdule Fur: Netwrking Gear In this mdule, yu'll examine different types f netwrking gear. We'll actually bring several different pieces f equipment t the classrm s yu can see and tuch the different types f equipment. Yu'll understand the difference between hubs, bridges, switches, and ruters and knw when t use each ne. Netwrk Cards Hubs Bridges and Switches Ruters Firewalls Mdule Five: Understanding Netwrking Prtcls Including IPv4 and IPv6 The TCP/IPv4 prtcl suite is the mst cmmnly used cllectin f netwrking prtcls in the wrld.
