Role Objective In conjunction with the Team Leader the Allied Health - Senior (Clinical Intake Officer) is responsible for coordinating access to the Child Development Service (CDS). The Clinical Intake Officer will take a lead role in processing referrals to the CDS screening referrals for suitability. In conjunction with the Team Leader the Clinical Intake Officer will liaise with referrals to support sound referral practices for children and families with developmental and/or non-developmental issues. Principal Accountabilities Role Accountabilities Values Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with QPS as outlined above and CQHHS values as outlined in the Information for Applicants booklet. Quality, Safety and Risk Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Identify and avoid or minimise risks to patients, employees, volunteers, visitors and the institution. Participate in quality and safety activities as required to promote improved service delivery and ensure safety and reliability underpins all we do. Clinical Practice Receive, triage, process and respond to referrals from general practitioners, paediatricians, Child Health Nurses, from Rockhampton Hospital Specialist Outpatient Department and other health professionals. Communication and Teamwork Leadership and Management Make clinical decisions regarding internal and external referrals. Gather information and perform screening assessment during the initial interview for the client and their family. Undertake assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of children considering their physical, social, psychological and cognitive needs using a variety of formal and informal materials procedures and techniques at an advanced level. Contribute to data collation and maintain data bases as required. Exercise independent judgement and problem solving skills and undertake high level complex non-routine occupational therapy to children with frequent need for direct practice supervision. Liaise and communicate effectively (both verbal and written) to staff, patients and stakeholders. Work cooperatively and effectively within the Child Development Service, and across the CQHHS with other staff to affect optimal health outcomes for patients/clients. Confer regularly with the Team Leader on referral priorities and workload distribution. In conjunction with the Team Leader, lead the intake case discussion and allocation of referrals for the CDS. Provide clinical practice supervision to less experienced practitioners and students to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards within CQHHS. The position reports to the Team Leader Child Development Service. Qualifications/Professional registration/other requirements A tertiary degree or equivalent Qualification in a health science and current registration with the appropriate board which allows employment as a Health Practitioner by Queensland Health is mandatory. The position is open to clinicians with appropriate qualification and registration in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Speech Pathology and Social Work. For those professionals that do not have a current registration board (Speech Pathology and Social Work) a current blue card is required. Occupational Therapy: tertiary institution in Occupational Therapy. Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practicing certificate is mandatory. Physiotherapist: tertiary institution in Physiotherapy. Registration as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practicing certificate is mandatory. Psychology: The successful applicant must possess a four year degree in Psychology (Honours, Graduate Diploma) from an accredited tertiary institution. Full Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with a current annual practicing certificate. Social Work: The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in Social Work as well as eligibility for full membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). While not mandatory, status as an AASW accredited Mental Health Social Worker is highly regarded.
