B.C. SECTION NEWSLETTER Fall 2014 Volume 17 Number 03 Message From The President s the fall season is quickly approaching, I hope everyone had a wonderful summer Aand was able to take some time to enjoy the warm stretches of sunshine! I am writing this article on the way home from the IMSA International Conference which was hosted by the Midwestern Section at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. The conference had a fantastic slate of technical sessions and one of the largest and most extensive trade shows I have ever seen at our International Conference. I would like to extend my congratulations to Michael Flanigan of the Ontario Section as he assumes the role as the new President of IMSA. I was also able to meet the new IMSA Executive Director Michael Volling and some of the new IMSA staff. Hearing their vision and some of their thoughts and passion regarding the future of IMSA was very exciting. There are many new things happening within the International Office, two of the most notable changes are the relocation of the International Office to Rockledge, Florida and the opening of a new satellite office in Washington, D.C. IMSA membership is very strong and with the new International Offices and staff, the reach of our organization will only continue to grow and provide more value to the membership. This fall, the B.C. Section will be hosting the Fall Trade Show and Technical Sessions on Tuesday November 4th, 2014 at the Executive Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre in Coquitlam, B.C. The Technical Sessions will be announced shortly and will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest industry trends, newest technology, and as always earn those valuable T.A.R.P Points. The trade show will be open all day and will provide a fantastic opportunity to meet with all the Vendors who are so critical in supporting our Section and all that we are able to offer. I invite you all to register online and participate. The registration information can be found within this article as well as online at http://imsa.bc.ca I look forward to seeing you all in November, and if you or anyone you know wishes to become more involved with IMSA please speak with anyone on the B.C. Section Executive. Join us for the IMSA B.C. Section Mitch Stripp, President IMSA B.C. Section FalI Technical Sessions and Trade Show at the Executive Plaza Hotel Coquitlam, B.C. Certification Corner I hope everyone managed to squeeze in some vacation time during these last few months of fantastic weather! All work and no play. Not much happened on the B.C. Section certification front over the summer but the International Office has now transitioned to their new offices in Florida, along with their new staff. Things slowed down somewhat during the transition as the new staff took on the International Conference for the first time, but certification processing is back on track and certification projects are moving forward again as well. A trial by fire, but the Conference was a success with no catastrophes obvious to the participants. During the conference, several meetings were conducted to introduce the new staff and discuss general certification issues, Canadian certification issues and several of the ongoing certification projects. There is some welcome news that eventually will affect the way IMSA International and the local sections do business. A consultant has been engaged to look at a new office business process management suite to replace a lot of independent business systems that are getting beyond mature! The intent is to reduce the manual input and duplication that is currently going on and provide web-based services to allow better information transfer between IMSA Sections and the International. The longer term plan is to potentially open the door to online training, exams etc. The Fall Trade Show and Technical Sessions are coming up on Tuesday November 4th. We are offering Workzone Temporary Traffic Control Technician, Roadway Lighting Technician Level 1, Signs and Pavement Marking Technician Level 1 and Traffic Signal Inspector in late October and early November. The website is open for registrations for both the Certification Schools and the Trade Show. See you at the show! Graeme Kraft, Certification Chair IMSA B.C.
