2 February 2014 Dear Sisters and Brothers: I m inviting you to attend our National Women s Conference, November 1 4, 2015 in Vancouver at the Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites. Women in the Steelworkers have always been active. So why is Action! the theme of our conference? For all the gains that women have made, in our union and in the wider society, a lot more still needs to be done. In 2015, women still don t have the same access as men to full time, decent paying work. Women continue to face harassment and violence, at home and at work. Women aren t present in our legislatures and at decision making tables in numbers that reflect their presence in our population. And the picture is even worse for aboriginal women, women of colour, women with disabilities, and women who are lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. In the face of these challenges, we need Action! Our 2015 National Women s Conference will focus on Action: For an End to Violence For Good Jobs For Leadership. At this conference, you will hear from community and Steelworker activists about what can be done. In workshop sessions, you will have the chance to dive more deeply into the details and do practical planning for your local union and community. In caucuses, discussion sessions, and coffee breaks, you will network with and learn from Women of Steel from across the country. This conference comes at an exciting time, as our union welcomes the addition of thousands of new Women of Steel, members of the Telecommunications Workers Union, USW National Local Union We will also gather after the 2015 federal election, the most important federal election in the last fifty years for working women and for unions. Please join us as we celebrate our accomplishments and join hands for action on future victories. Women make our union strong!
