Connecting to the University Wireless Network Wifi is available to staff and registered students of University in certain areas of the three campuses of the University. This area of coverage will be expanded in future as resources become available. In order to enable you wireless device to access the wifi network, it needs to be configured for access, and there are three (3) steps to be followed. 1. Configure your device to connect to the uniswawifi-students SSID. 2. Register your device to use the University Wireless network. 3. Configure your device s web browser to use the University s proxy server for Internet access. These steps must be followed in the order indicated. Once done, you will be able to have access to the network, and the Internet. Students should note that there is a monthly limit of 3 GB (3072 MB) for Internet access, and once this limit has been exceeded, the user will no longer have Internet access from their device, until the start of the following month. Connect to the University wireless network using Windows 8 1. On the desktop screen Right Click on the wireless (network) icon. 2. Double-click the Open Network and Sharing Centre icon 2

3. Click on Set up a new connection or network 4. Click on the Click on Manually connect to a wireless network 3

5. In the new window that appears, enter the following settings Network name uniswawifi-students Security Type - WPA2-Enterprise Encryption Type - AES Make sure that Start this connection automatically is checked and click on Next 6. Click on Change connection settings 4

7. Select the Security tab. Under Choose a network authentication method: make sure that it is Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP) using the drop down menu. Also check the box next to Remember my credentials for this connection each time I m logged on and then click on Settings. 5

8. In the pop-up window that opens up, remove the tick next to Validate server certificate if it is checked and then click on the Configure button. 9. Uncheck (remove the tick) the checkbox next to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any). Click OK and again OK. 6

10. Click on the Advanced button and on the 802.1X settings tab click on the box next to Specify authentication mode to place a tick on it and select User authentication in the drop down box below specify authentication method. Select OK. 11. Close the Manage Wireless Networks window. Click on the wireless network icon. 7

A pop-up notification from the wireless icon should appear when you are in an area where the wireless network exists. Select uniswawifi-students. In the Network Authentication window that appears, enter your network user name and password (i.e. username and password you use to login to the lab PCs). Click OK to login. 8

Register device to use the University Wireless network Once you are connected to the network, the device needs to be registered (done only once per academic year). Start up a browser i.e. Internet Explorer and type the url given below, depending on the campus you are using the device in for the first time. Kwaluseni campus: http://kwnetreg.uniswa.sz Luyengo campus: http://lynetreg.uniswa.sz Mbabane campus: http://mbnetreg.uniswa.sz If a message indicating a problem with website s security certificate appears, select Continue to this website option. 9

Read through the displayed page and the bottom of the registration page looks like: Enter the network username and password (i.e. username and password you use to login to the lab PCs) and click Accept after having read the text on the page. After successful registration, you should see the message below. Switch your device off for at least five minutes and then switch it back on. 10

Configure your browser (Internet Explorer) to use the proxy server The final step that will enable the device to have Internet access is to configure the browser to use the University s proxy server. Start Internet Explorer and select Tools then Internet Options. Click Lan settings. 11

Check the box (ensure there is a tick) next to Use automatic configuration script and in the box next to address type http://www.uniswa.sz/uniswa/uniswaproxy.pac. Click on Ok and Ok again to get back to the main window of the browser. At this point, your wireless device which is using Windows XP should be configured for network and Internet access. Remember the 3 GB monthly quota!!!! 12
