Kwanlin Dun First Nation A. Position Title: Adult Educator & Facilitator (Level 7) Department: Supervisor: Education Manager of Education : July 29, 2014 Status: Full time Term B. Job Summary: Under the direction of the Manager of Education, the position is responsible for developing, implementing, delivering and facilitating culturally appropriate, targeted education programs and services specific to adult education, training and employment to Kwanlin Dun First Nation Citizens and others. The Adult Educator / Facilitator provides education services for clients and facilitates provision of training programs that meet the needs of the KDFN community. This is done by establishing and maintaining client-service relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and rapport, enabling identification of underlying issues/problem areas, and identification of realistic goals for dealing with presenting problems/issues/barriers. The position works collaboratively with Kwanlin Dun First Nation Education staff, is a member of the case management team and works cooperatively other KDFN Departments (Health, Housing, Justice, Administration and Social Assistance) and other agencies to provide coordinated services to achieve program and case management objectives. C. Main Duties: Educational programming, instruction and program service delivery 1. Provides regular educational programming and instruction aimed to reduce the education gap for students to move to tertiary education or gain employment. This programming will be delivered in various forms including but not limited to: i. drop in support; ii. scheduled workshops and courses based on community interest and demand; and, iii. regularly scheduled programming. 2. Planning, organising and providing instruction in education and training programs, workshops, and courses. This includes: i. Delivering and instructing various courses using appropriate and varying adult instructional methods and resources. ii. Assigning, reviewing and assessing the work of students;

iii. Providing academic support to students participating in distance education courses, home study or through the internet. 3. Developing and maintaining a system for regular follow up and reporting on the training and employment status of individuals and clients participating in training and educational programs. 4. Conduct regular Needs Analysis to identify necessary programming, inclusive of considerations and advice from other Case Managers in the House of Learning (HOL). 5. Submits costs and quotes for training and education programs for consideration and approval and manages contracts of outside instructors and facilitators as required. 6. Conduct literacy assessments and liaise with relevant agencies. 7. Provides monthly reporting on program activities, education service statistics, etc. Reporting status and progress of programs and courses and making recommendations for new and existing program, proposals, implementation and delivery to the Manager and Director on a regular basis. 8. Promotes upcoming training and educational programming through various means of advertising (via e mail, internet, intranet, community and departmental information boards, monthly community bulletins, quarterly newsletter contributions etc.) 9. Assisting in the design, development, and implementation of long range KDFN education and training plans for KDFN. Case Management 1. Works within the case management (CM) model, the Adult Educator Facilitator will actively participate in weekly case management meetings with HOL CM team to coordinate services and provide input to client programs and service reviews. This may include working with other case management staff to refer citizens and clients to designated internal and external programs and services (i.e.: career planning, life planning services, employment assistance, post-secondary/alfa assessment and funding, Social Assistance transitions counselling,)assisting with determining goals and areas of need, and contributing to the creation and modification of case plans as is necessary. Other 2. Facilitating, through liaison and referral, client access to specific KDFN and community resources necessary to support the development goals of individual case management plans. 3. Co-ordinating and monitoring services, including comprehensive tracking of client activities in relation to client progress on case management plans. 1. Researching funding opportunities for training and preparing proposals to access funds.

2. Preparing required confidential reports/statistics for funding agencies, government, cooperating agencies and KDFN management where necessary. 3. Maintaining comprehensive client case files and records, utilizing relevant databases and systems such as Tribal Administration Database, AIS, and GENIE. 4. Ensuring compliance with all relevant acts, policies, regulations, and procedures in the delivery of services to the community. 5. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with KDFN staff, other agencies and educational institutions. Positively represents Kwanlin Dun First Nation with colleagues, clients and the community. 6. Commitment to maintaining professional development and staying abreast of the changes and progress in adult education, curriculum development and delivery etc. 7. Contributing to work-plans, budgets, evaluations and will be required to write proposals, progress, statistical and year end reports that support the department. 8. Authorise and manage invoices for payment of contracted services, training programs and other services related to the duties of the position 9. Performing other activities and duties as directed, within the position s mandate and incumbents expertise. D. Education and Experience: Bachelor of Education or equivalent, preferably in the area of Adult Education, combined with a minimum of 2 years recent work experience in adult education; Successful instructional experience teaching adult basic education and employability skills; Experience with curriculum/program planning, development, delivery and evaluation; Experience monitoring and reporting on educational programming and activities; solid writing skills are required; Experience facilitating meetings, training and workshops; Experience in negotiations, conflict resolution, communications and life skills is an asset; Experience working within a case management model is an asset; Experience working with First Nations and/or in a community development context; Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history, culture, goals, self-government and of the impact of residential school. F. Direction/Decision Making: Describe final decisions regularly made for which the incumbent is held accountable. The Adult Educator & Facilitator, in collaboration with the Education Manager and Director of Education & Social Assistance, establish the goals and objectives of this position. The Manager of Education provides day-to-day direction as required, but the incumbent is expected to accomplish the requirements of the position with minimal supervision. G. Impact and Accountability: The Adult Educator & Facilitator is responsible for providing targeted instructional services to assist a client to meet their educational goals. They facilitate the education and training required by KDFN clients to meet the objectives set in clients case management plans. The work of the position has significant impact on individuals, families, community, and to the KDFN government in building internal capacity. The position is responsible for ensuring strict confidentiality. Services are coordinated with other CM staff and KDFN departments, and are developed and monitored as part of a comprehensive case management plan. The incumbent works with individuals on a case management basis, but is also a member of a team of professionals mandated to advance the overall interests of the KDFN internal representative work-force initiative, as well as other growth interests of the KDFN organization. The reputation and results achieved by this position are enormously important to the citizens, community and government of Kwanlin Dun First Nation. Education leads to employment, selfsufficiency and empowerment, thus the work of this position has strategic importance in terms of building community capacity to broaden participation in future opportunities. I. Working Conditions: The position is located in a normal office environment with regularly scheduled working hours. One may be required to provide for after hour services and programming as is scheduled and approved. The Position must be able to work with regular interruption and is subject to varying demands and deadlines requiring time, stress management, and multi-tasking skills. One may experience stress dealing with upset, dissatisfied or emotional clients, and must handle inquiries and demands from the public with patience, diplomacy and tact. J.
