As you will see in the following pages there is a great deal to celebrate in the Jackson County School District. We are particularly proud that all of our schools were once again A or B for the 5th year in a row, and our districtwide graduation rate was over 84%. Additionally, we are proud of our 3rd graders and their teachers for a pass rate of over 95% on the reading gate assessment (with one more opportunity to go). Hornets Dr. Susan Benson, JCSD Assistant Superintendent District Office The Central Office Staff of the Jackson County School District welcomes you to the 2015-2016 school year. Our staff members are here to help support our schools in district-wide efforts and programs. The children in our district are our most valuable and precious resource and our hope for the future; therefore, our goal is to provide the support needed to enable each student to excel. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our students and schools. Our schools have A and B ratings and our District has a B rating. Congratulations to our Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center, which had students who scored 1st Place in IT Service and Diesel Technology. In addition, three students scored 2nd Place and three scored 3rd Place in the USA State Competition. We are very proud of these students and teachers. We also have a new and exciting program at the CTE Center. Our Energy, Operations, and Maintenance (EOM) Program is the first in the state. We are looking forward to our partnership with the MS Gulf Coast Community College, Chevron, and the Southern Company, which is a parent company of MS Power. This program will serve all three attendance centers. Everyone in each attendance center also does an excellent job to contribute to the success of our students. We congratulate all 13 schools, the Food Service Department, and the staff for being recipients of the Bronze Medal Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We appreciate the support we receive from our students, parents, community, and school board members. We have a wonderful partnership and look forward to having another successful school year. We had an active summer pursuing many goals, which include writing federal applications; planning for funding; updating handbooks, updating technology including revisions to our online registration process and online testing, making student data base changes, preparing the online free and reduced lunch application; updating curriculum guides; conducting staff workshops; preparing for early intervention programs; and working on healthy menus. In addition, we are partnering with the community to enhance school readiness skills. Our online state testing went well. We will continue to upgrade technology districtwide to ensure we meet all state requirements. We hope you had a great summer and a wonderful beginning to the new school year.
