ANNUAL LOG IN 1. Turn on computer. 2. Press any key (i.e. spacebar). 3. Type in your student ID number as the user name. 4. Type in password: Returning students: existing password New students: university and follow next prompts to create a personal password
PASSWORDS It is recommended to use: A minimum of 8 characters long. A combination of at least one upper and lower case letter, number and symbol. Different passwords for different accounts.
DEFINITIONS for Information Technology (IT) Services A STRESS-FREE STUDENT CYCLE New student: predominantly year 1 student or even a returning student who does not currently posses a learning tool requiring a learning tool Returning student: year 2, 3 and 4 student who currently posses a learning tool requiring a learning tool refresh REFRESH CYCLE Hardware refresh: returning student (mainly year 3) who will receive an exchange of learning tools new upgraded learning tool model with software upgrade Software refresh: returning student (mainly year 2 and 4) who will receive a re-image of current learning tool software upgrade

SSNPM self-service network account A STRESS-FREE 1. Open a browser. 2. Type the following address: https://mypassword.dc-uoit.ca 3. Click on Edit my Profile (to create a new profile). 4. Enter your student ID# (100.) in the User Name box. 5. Enter your network password (same as you logged in as). 6. Hit Submit. 7. You will be prompted to choose and answer 3 security questions. 8. Hit Submit. *It is important to remember the security questions and answers. All ARE case sensitive.

The Don'ts eat or drink around the learning tool. touch the screen. carry or pick up the learning tool by the screen or keyboard. carry an opened learning tool by the keyboard bezel. leave the learning tool on in the backpack. apply stickers that could compromise the physical condition of the learning tool. (all stickers need to be removed prior to return, a fee will be applied if there is extensive damage to the learning tool)

When to visit the IT Service Desk If the learning tool is not functioning properly or prohibits the student to preform daily tasks (i.e. virus). If the learning tool makes odd or unusual noise. If the learning tool is abnormally hot. If experiencing log-in issues. If a spill occurs.
BEST PRACTICES For the UOIT owned learning tool (cont.) A STRESS-FREE If a spill occurs 1. Hold down power button for 5 seconds, the learning tool will shut down. 2. Unplug the AC adapter and/or other cords. 3. Let the learning tool rest for 10 minutes on a flat solid surface until the liquid drains. (no need to flip it upside down) 4. Close the learning tool. 5. Do not carry the learning tool in the backpack, hold it with two hands in an upright position. 6. Visit the IT Service Desk immediately.

BENEFITS of Technology-Enriched Learning Environment (cont.) A STRESS-FREE Learning Tool Purchase for Graduating Students (year 4) The learning tool is UOIT property until it is purchased after graduation. Eligibility for full-time students: Pay two full-time technology-enriched learning fees. Completed an undergraduate degree and applied for Graduation through the Registrar's Office. Provide $1 cash at time of pick up to transfer asset ownership and warranty. Dates for process will be displayed on the ITSC website: www.itsc.uoit.ca, Important date page. Please note: Students who decide not to purchase their laptop, must return it by the return date outline in the Important Date section.
IMPORTANT DATES Student is Return Full-time & returning to full-time August 2016 Part-time After fall term December 18, 2015 After winter term April 27, 2016 After spring term June 27, 2016 After summer term August 23, 2016 Learning tools should be returned when: student withdraws from institution student changes the program student is dismissed/suspended student changes status (F/T to P/T or P/T to F/T) attending internship/co-op/work study taking a semester off $25 a day (up to 5 days) late fee is applied to a students account if the learning tool is not returned by the required date. Further administrative fees of up to $1,000 may also be applied. Note: All dates are subject to change, please check the Important Dates page on the ITSC website www.itsc.uoit.ca on a regular basis.
LEARNING TOOL CARE THEFT OR LOSS Student must immediately report the incident to: 1. Local Police to file a police report. 2. Campus Security. 3. IT Service Desk to complete an incident report. INSURANCE University provides insurance for all learning tools at no additional charge. The deductible for this policy is $350 (if the claim exceeds $350, the student pays the initial $350 and the institution pays the balance). This insurance with the Institution is one-time-use while the student attends UOIT. A STRESS-FREE
DATA BACKUP TIPS It is a student s responsibility to back up personal and academic data. This will ensure files and data is protected in case of damaged, lost or stolen learning tools. Options available: UOITnet Google drive available on your learning tool (cloud based storage system with unlimited storage) Campus network H: drive Portable USB drive External hard drive Cloud backup

To log into UOITnet, follow instructions using the UOITnet login procedures.
RESOURCES Software Most software you require for your academic use is available on your learning tool but some will be available through LANDesk. To check if you need to install software, click on the UOIT Software Deployment icon on your desktop. If software is listed you can install on your own personal time. You can follow the install instruction available on the ITSC website under Getting Help, Tutorial Videos and Fact Sheets, Video: Installing Software using LANDesk.
