STUDENT SUCCESS AND SUPPORT PROGRAM (formerly kow as Matriculatio) The itet of the Studet Success ad Support Program is to icrease studet access ad success through the provisio of core support services, icludig orietatio, assessmet ad placemet, couselig, advisig, educatio plaig services, ad follow-up for at-risk studets. The goal is to provide all studets with the support services ecessary to assist them i achievig their educatioal goal ad declared course of study. Per Califoria Code of Regulatios, Kidergarte- 12th grade studets are required to submit a ew applicatio every term. Trascripts for Admissio The followig studets are expected to submit official trascripts from all previously atteded istitutios: Applicats to the Registered Nursig, Physical Therapist Assistat, or Respiratory Therapy Programs; Veteras; Iteratioal studets; Studets plaig to trasfer to a baccalaureate college or uiversity; Studets participatig i itercollegiate sports. The applicat is resposible for requestig that official trascripts are mailed directly to the Office of Admissios ad Records. Applicats who have bee out of high school for five years or more do ot eed to submit their high school trascripts. Programs Requirig Special Admissio I additio to the basic requiremets for admissio to Ohloe College, there are specific requiremets for admissio to the Registered Nursig, Respiratory Therapist, ad Physical Therapist Assistat Programs. Ohloe College/Diablo Valley College Cooperative Program i Respiratory Therapy The Respiratory Therapist curriculum is offered by Ohloe College i cooperatio with Diablo Valley College. Residecy Iformatio By state law Ohloe College is required to obtai evidece from studets of physical presece i Califoria ad of their itet to make Califoria their home state for other tha a temporary period. A Califoria residet, for purposes of commuity college admissio, is a perso who has maitaied physical presece i Califoria for at least oe year ad oe day immediately prior to the first day of istructio with the demostrable itet of makig Califoria his or her permaet home. No-residet studets who have atteded three years of high school i Califoria may be eligible for exemptio from o-residet tuitio per AB 540. Due to the complexity of residecy requiremets, studets are ecouraged to cotact the Office of Admissios ad Records at (510) 659-6100 with specific questios. Iteratioal Studet Admissio Iteratioal studet is defied here as a studet who has or wishes to obtai a F-1 Studet Visa to study i the Uited States. Ohloe College admits ad serves a diverse commuity of iteratioal studets. Ohloe s Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office issues the Immigratio Form I-20 to admitted iteratioal studets. Studets the use the Form I-20 to apply for a F-1 Studet Visa at a U.S. Embassy or Cosulate i their home coutry. Studets curretly studyig o a F-1 Visa at aother school i the Uited States may apply to trasfer to Ohloe College. Iteratioal studet applicatio deadlies are May 31 for the Fall Semester ad October 31 for the Sprig Semester. To be cosidered for admissio, iteratioal studets must submit a completed Iteratioal Studet Applicatio form, ad other required applicatio documets, to the Iteratioal Programs ad Services Office. The ELI is a full-time, itesive Eglish laguage program desiged for o-ative speakers of Eglish who have or wish to obtai a F-1 Studet Visa. Special Studet Admissio Kidergarte-12th Grade Studets The term special admissio applies to studets who are curretly erolled i Kidergarte-12th grade. These studets may eroll i Ohloe College courses that are UC ad/or CSU trasferable o a space available basis. PE ad ATHL classes are ot available for ay Kidergarte-12th grade studet erollmet. Kidergarte-12th grade studets must meet all course prerequisites to be eligible for erollmet; for courses i Eglish ad Math this usually requires that the studet take a Ohloe Placemet Test. Per Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, Kidergarte-12th grade coursework may ot be used to waive college prerequisites. Paretal ad pricipal or school official approval is also required. Kidergarte-12th grade studets are exempt from payig the Califoria Commuity College Erollmet Fee, but are subject to payig the Electroic Access Fee, Health Services Fee, ad the optioal Studet Activities Fee. Studets who are erolled exclusively i classes located at off-campus sites are also exempt from the Electroic Access Fee, Health Services Fee, ad Studet Activities Fee. Studets who are erolled oly i olie classes are subject to the Electroic Access Fee. All Kidergarte-12th grade studets are required to submit a ew applicatio for admissio every term. Studets will be required to submit their completed applicatio packet by a deadlie several weeks before the start of the term. No applicatios for Kidergarte-9th grade studets will be accepted after the deadlie posted for each term. PLACEMENT TESTING Placemet Testig Ceter Buildig 7, secod floor, Room 7205 o the Fremot campus (510) 659-6126 www.ohloe.edu/placemet/ Placemet Tests The Ohloe College placemet tests measure laguage, readig, ad math skills. All tests are computerized ad ot timed. The placemet tests are ot pass or fail tests ad are ot used to exclude studets from admissio to Ohloe. The placemet tests attempt to properly place studets i readig, writig, ad mathematics courses. The tests also idetify prerequisite preparatio (courses required before takig aother course). Ultimate placemet is ofte based o multiple criteria measures. Couselors ca also review other factors such as previous coursework ad ay other appropriate iformatio i order to place studets ito courses. Steps for Takig the Placemet Tests Step 1: Step 2: Submit a applicatio to Ohloe College ad obtai a Ohloe College studet ID umber. Registratio Procedures Studets should acquait themselves with Ohloe College registratio policies by studyig the iformatio i this Catalog, the Class Schedule, ad registratio materials supplied by the Office of Admissios ad Records. Registratio dates are published i the Academic Caledar i the Class Schedule (olie at www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios/academiccaledar.html) ad o the Admissios ad Records Web page (www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios). Studets register for classes olie via WebAdvisor (https://webadvisor.ohloe.edu). Registratio by proxy is permissible with writte permissio from the studet. Erollmet will ot be allowed i a o-repeatable course that was previously completed with a grade of C or better. Erollmets will also ot be allowed i a course that has already bee repeated the maximum times allowed, per Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios. All repeat policies are eforced through WebAdvisor ad studets will be blocked from registerig for courses whe the maximum umber of erollmets has already bee attaied. A course with a letter grade, icludig a W, couts as a erollmet. Per 58161 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, effective Summer 2012 a course with a letter grade, icludig a W, couts as a erollmet. If a studet receives a substadard grade (D, F, NP) at Ohloe the studet will be allowed to eroll i that same course agai i order to successfully complete the course. A studet will be allowed three attempts, icludig W s, to complete the course. The third erollmet i the course at Ohloe will become the fial erollmet at Ohloe, regardless of the grade eared by the studet. Oce the course is completed with a satisfactory grade (A, B, C, or P) the course caot be take agai at Ohloe. For example: Durig Fall 2014 a studet received a W i ENGL- 101A. Durig Sprig 2015 the same studet received a F i ENGL-101A. The ext time that the studet takes ENGL-101A, regardless of the grade (A, B, C, D, F, P, NP, or W), is the last time ENGL-101A ca be take at Ohloe College. Registerig for Courses with Prerequisites May courses have prerequisites that must be successfully completed prior to erollmet. Studets registerig for courses that require prerequisites will be allowed to register for the course durig the term they are erolled i the prerequisite course, eve though fial grades have ot yet bee posted. However, oce fial grades are posted, studets must have completed the prerequisite course with a grade of C or better or they will be dropped from the course. Studets will ot be able to register for courses for which Ohloe does ot have record that they have successfully completed the course prerequisites. Per Title 5 of the Califoria Code of Regulatios, Kidergarte-12th grade courses caot be used to meet college prerequisites. Prerequisites Take at Aother College or Uiversity Studets who have completed the course prerequisite at aother college or uiversity must speak to a couselor (Buildig 7, third floor o the Fremot campus or at the Studet Services Ceter i Room NC1312 o the Newark campus) about gettig the prerequisite waived before the studet will be able to register for the course. The couselor will eed to review the studet s trascript. If the couselor determies that the studet has successfully met the course prerequisites the the couselor will approve a waiver ad the studet will be able to register olie via WebAdvisor. Durig the registratio period, studets may place themselves o a waitlist for specific classes that are filled. Durig the registratio process, if a class is full studets will be asked o WebAdvisor if they wat to add to the waitlist. If space becomes available i the class, studets o the waitlist will be added to the class ad otified by e-mail. Studets are added to the class from the waitlist i the order they were added to the waitlist. Studets may check their status o the waitlist via their WebAdvisor accout. There is o guaratee that studets o a waitlist will be added ito the class. Studets who have blocks prevetig registratio such as a outstadig balace, umet prerequisites, coflicts with aother class, overloads, or other academic issues will ot be added ito a class from the waitlist eve if space is available. These studets will remai o the waitlist util the issue prevetig registratio is resolved by the studet. Studets are restricted from waitlistig i more tha oe sectio of a class (a example would be ENGL-101A-01 ad ENGL-101A-02). WebAdvisor will allow a studet who is already registered i oe sectio of a class to waitlist i oe other sectio of the class. However, studets will ot be added ito the waitlisted class while they are still registered i a differet sectio of the same class. The studet must drop the registered class i order to be moved ito the ext available space i the waitlisted class. Studets who decide ot to take a class for which they are waitlisted must remove themselves from the waitlist. Studets are liable for ay fees ad grades received if they fail to remove themselves for the waitlist, ad are subsequetly registered from the waitlist. Studets must atted the first class sessio of ay class for which they are waitlisted. Those studets who do ot atted the first class sessio will ot be added based upo their waitlist status, eve if space opes up i the class. Studets are added ito classes from the waitlist through the day prior to the first class sessio. After that date, faculty have complete cotrol over which studets are added ito their classes. Addig Classes (Registratio After the Start of Class) Studets may add full-term classes, where space is available, usig WebAdvisor through the date posted o the Academic Caledar o the Admissios ad Records Web page (www.ohloe.edu/org/admissios/academiccaledar.html). After that date studets may oly add full-term classes by obtaiig a add authorizatio code from the istructor. Studets will receive a W grade if they drop a class after the last day to drop without a W. However, W grades are ot cosidered puitive ad studets are ecouraged to drop classes i which they are ot doig well ad are cocered that they may receive a substadard grade. Classes caot be dropped after the deadlie to receive a W; studets who are still erolled after the last day to drop must receive a letter grade (A-F).
