Roofing Systems New Applications / Re-Roofing / Maintenance
New Roof Installation In terms of the design and installation of an original roofing system (in conjunction with the construction of a new building), Flynn Canada Ltd. has extensive experience in all types of applications. We draw from a complete portfolio of conventional and cutting edge roofing systems, including: 4-ply BUR membranes, 2-ply modified bitumen membrane, hot rubberized membranes, all types of single-ply roofing membrane, and metal roofing. Roof Replacement Roofing system failure can be caused by a number of factors, including: age, severe weather, poor workmanship, defective materials, improper design, and lack of maintenance. At Flynn Canada Ltd. our most common solution for preventing roofing problems is to extend the life expectancy through regular maintenance. However, even the best maintained roofing systems will eventually need replacing. We understand that your business cannot shut down during most replacements. Therefore, our forces move as quickly as possible without compromising quality to minimize disruption to your operations and employees. Roof Restoration ROOF RESTORATION can add as much as ten years to the useful life of a roof, for approximately half the cost. Restoration would typically involve repairs at areas of previous leaks, membrane flashings at protrusions & perimeters, and re-surfacing. The opportunity for roof restoration can easily be missed if your roof is not monitored regularly. Through regular visual reviews, Flynn Canada Ltd. can easily identify this opportunity and provide the building owners with recommendations in order to extend the life expectancy of the roof system, and optimize your return on your investment. 1
Roof Asset Management The most effective way to reduce your roofing costs and extend the life expectancy of your roof is through ROOF ASSET MANAGEMENT. System Options MODIFIED BITUMEN ROOFING MODIFIED BITUMEN ROOFING is a factory-manufactured membrane provided in rolls which are adhered with either hot asphalt, cold adhesive, or heat applied. There are two types of MODIFIED BITUMEN membranes: SBS (rubber modifier), and APP (plastic modifier). This type of roofing system can be applied in an exposed assembly, or can be installed in a (PMR) protected membrane assembly with extruded insulation, filter fabric and stone ballast above the membrane. There is also a MODIFIED BITUMEN system specifically designed for Green Roof applications. BUILT-UP ROOFING BUILT-UP ROOFING (BUR) is a method of applying a roof system composed of many layers, utilizing a variety of organic or inorganic roofing felts. The roofing felts may be applied with hot or cold asphalt, rubberized modified asphalt, or adhered with coal tar emulsion. This system provides cost effective protection, and can be surfaced with a variety of materials, including aggregates, finishing felt, or reflective coatings. THERMOFUSIBLE SINGLE-PLY MEMBRANES THERMOFUSIBLE SINGLE-PLY MEMBRANES are factory fabricated and available in a variety of thickness and colors. The membrane is installed in the field as a single waterproofing layer. THERMOFUSIBLE ROOFING MEMBRANES include, but are not limited to, the following: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO), Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE), and Chlorosulphanted Polyethylene - Hypalon (CSPE). These types of membranes can be installed in mechanically fastened, fully adhered, loose laid ballasted, or protected membrane assemblies. EPDM EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Dienne Monomer) rubber roofing membranes (reinforced or non-reinforced) are factory fabricated and available in various thicknesses. These types of membranes can be installed in mechanically fastened, fully adhered, loose laid ballasted, or protected membrane assemblies. 3
System Options (cont d) POLYMER MODIFIED ASPHALT POLYMER MODIFIED ASPHALT systems incorporate the time proven fundamentals of built-up roofing with 21 st century technology. The inclusion of polymers creates built-up roofing with elastic properties, greater ultraviolet, water resistance, and self healing characteristics. This type of system is commonly applied in roof terraces, roof gardens, planter systems, and parking decks. METAL ROOFING METAL ROOFING systems are factory manufactured and are available in many types of metals, such as: aluminum, galvanized, galvalume, zinc, copper, etc. A metal roofing system is generally classified as either an architectural or structural panel based on its design and strength, and can be identified by the seam formation as follows: standing seam joint, tee joint & batten seam joint. The pre-painted metal systems are available in a variety of standard and custom colors to achieve the desired aesthetics. GREEN ROOFS GREEN ROOFS involve the creation of contained green space on top of a building structure. This green space could be below, at, or above grade but in all cases the plants are not planted in the ground. A green roof system is an extension of the existing roof, which involves: a special water proof and root repellent membrane, drainage system, filter cloth, lightweight growing medium, and plants. Flynn Canada Ltd. has completed a number of green roof projects and is a member of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. PROTECTED MEMBRANE ROOF PROTECTED MEMBRANE ROOF (PMR) systems with extruded polystyrene insulation have a number advantages over a traditional roofing system, including: keeping the waterproof membrane from UV degradation, thermal shock, and the physical abuse of foot traffic or other rooftop equipment which is not secured. There are numerous membranes available in the Canadian industry for these types of applications. 4
