Register Now 2 nd Dii DESERT ENERGY CONFERENCE CAIRO 2011 2 nd 3 rd November 2011

This year has so far been dominated by the significant political transitions in North Africa and a worldwide re-evaluation of our energy supply following the nuclear disaster in Japan. Both developments have accelerated the question of our times: Where are the large energy resources of the future? I believe that the most obvious sustainable resources can be found in the deserts such as in North Africa and the Middle East. Our objective is to help making these resources available for the local population and remote markets. Of course as many people as possible should benefit from this development, especially the fast growing group of young people. I am confident that Dii s joint effort with governments and businesses will contribute to long-term prosperity. It is, thus, not only about renewable energy, it is all about the development of new industries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), about investments, the creation of jobs and the transfer of knowledge and know-how. Our choice of venue is intended to illustrate that the development of renewable energy sources should first and foremost benefit the MENA region. It is now more urgent and pressing than ever that desert renewable energy provides the entire region of EU and MENA with a secure energy supply. The point in time has come when definite steps towards the realisation of our vision must be taken. Paul van Son, CEO, Dii Celebrate Dii s second anniversary at the Dii Desert Energy Conference. Get an insight into Dii s current activities in North Africa and the Middle East and, in particular, information regarding the first reference projects in Morocco and Tunisia. Receive first-hand information on recent developments in the renewable energy sector while exchanging views with renowned speakers from politics, industry, society and scientific community from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Take part in talks and discussions about regulatory, political and economic challenges for large-scale production of electricity from sun and wind in the deserts and the crucial issue of bringing costs down to a competitive level. Get to know the industrial initiative Dii s team, network and partners. We believe this will offer a unique forum for an enriching and forward-looking dialogue on renewable energy bridging continents. Register now: www.dii-eumena.com/conference

Contact: Dii Gmbh Kaiserstrasse 14 80801 Munich, Germany E-mail: info@dii-eumena.com www.dii-eumena.com Desertec stands for making use of the vast potential of sustainable energy from the deserts. The Dii is an international industrial consortium comprising of more than 56 international institutions and companies including the Desertec Foundation. It was founded in October 2009 in Munich, Germany. It s aim is to create a legal, regulatory, economic and technical framework enabling governments and businesses to implement large-scale solar and wind projects in the EUMENA region (Europe, Middle East and North Africa). Power generated from sun and wind is primarily intended to meet the local demands in North Africa and the Middle East but will also allow countries to export energy to Europe. Dii s effort as an enabler and catalyser for desert power, in partnership with local representatives, will directly and indirectly benefit all stakeholders such as national economies, the civil society and industries. Besides the initiation of selected reference projects which aim to demonstrate the overall feasibility of the Desertec vision, Dii will develop a long-term implementation concept with investment and financing guidance until 2050. w w w. d i i - e u m e n a. c o m / c o n f e r e n c e
