1 Medical Education Department About the Department The department of Medical education, faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University, is the first department to be founded in medical education in all the Egyptian universities and the Middle East as a whole. MED-SCU addresses the challenges and threats to the delivery of proper medical education and hence, the promotion of better health care and service. The foundation of MED-SCU has opened the road to produce specialists and expert providers by offering Diploma, Master, and PhD degrees, as well as short-term training courses. The department offices are located in the lecture halls building in the 1 st floor. The offices are fully equipped with computers and internet access for all the department staff members. The department manpower consists of 19 academic staff members. The present head of department is Prof. Wagdy Talaat Youssef Mohamed. Education and Services Medical Education department at the Faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University offers a comprehensive study programs to provide postgraduate medical students with a strong background in all aspects of medical education.

2 The department gives the diploma degree in medical education for all health profession graduates and it is called Diploma of Health Profession Education (DHPE). It is an annual 44-week credit-hour based program, conducted through distance learning. It is formed of 7 blocks, six weeks each. In each of the units, various contributing disciplines are organized around a central theme. The overall theme of the curriculum, which provides coherence to the program as a whole, will be The competencies required for an educationalist in the health professions domain. DHPE is a professional, accelerated, feasible and affordable. Professional; focuses mainly on professional skills, rather than abstract theories, highly needed for medical educators like teaching/learning skills, curriculum design, and students assessment. Accelerated; 44-week, credit-hour program. Feasible; mainly a distance learning course that allows students to stay in their home institutions and learn interactively through e-learning. Affordable; costs only $ 1,500 which covers the tuition fees, books, evaluation and certification costs.

3 The Link of the English Diploma of Health Professions Education Website (DHPE): The Link of the Arabic Diploma of Health Professions Education Website (ADHPE) : The medical education department also offers a degree in Joint Master of Health Professions Education (JMHPE) offered by University of Maastricht and Suez Canal University aims at providing participants with the intellectual means needed to attain the goal. The JMHPE program is an annual 52 weeks (1 calendar year) credit hour based study. It is conducted totally through distance learning. The curriculum has a sixweek block or unit structure, during which students concentrate on specific subjects. In each of the units, various contributing disciplines are organized around a central theme. The rationale behind this distance learning joint programme is to combine the academic Maastricht experience as a pioneering problem-based school in Europe with the practical Suez Canal experience as a pioneering community-oriented/based, problem-based school in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The overall theme of the curriculum, which provides coherence to the programme as a whole, will be the competencies required of an educationalist in the health professions domain.

4 Distance-education is supported by an electronic block books. Interaction between students and staff is web-based. The Link of the Joint Master Health Professions Education (JMHPE): The department also gives a Master and PhD degrees in the field of medical education following the regular rules for the postgraduates in FOMSCU; having exams (first & second part) and thesis.
