The Infrastructure & Technical Services Manager is a key contributor to the Faculty Services Leadership Team and works in close collaboration with other Faculty and University Functions. The role is responsible for the planning and management of Faculty infrastructure, ensuring the effective delivery of technical services and the coordination of health, safety and wellbeing support. The incumbent will provide exceptional leadership to professional staff in support of academic outcomes and will foster a culture of innovation, service and collaboration. Position Characteristics: Scope The Faculty of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. ECMS comprises seven schools and two major research centres and is responsible for servicing the needs of over 5000 students. ECMS is responsible for teaching a wide range of under-and post-graduate programs, as well as conducting research in all disciplines. ECMS has an annual budget of approximately $140M and has recently embarked on an ambitious transformation program with the aim of creating an innovative, agile Faculty that is recognised for leadership in education, research and global engagement. Working under broad direction the Infrastructure & Technical Services Manager will partner with the Faculty Executive Director, Academic Leaders and relevant University functions to deliver technical learning and research services that deliver consistent high-quality outcomes in support of the Faculty s academic endeavours. The role will develop and maintain effective working relationships with other Faculty Managers and will work in collaboration with relevant Core and Shared Services. It will ensure alignment with university-wide priorities and enable the delivery of integrated services that support learning, teaching and research outcomes. The Infrastructure & Technical Services Manager exercises a considerable degree of autonomy and is responsible for the planning and management of shared resources and infrastructure, the delivery of technical support for teaching and research and coordination of Health Safety and Well-being across the Faculty. Some out of hours work and interstate travel may be required Some travel between campuses will be required Reasonable workplace adjustments will be made for people with a disability According to the Delegations Table (Link if appropriate) Lead a team of technical and professional staff in the delivery of responsive, outcomeoriented services across the Faculty for teaching and research technical support, infrastructure management and health and safety coordination. Develop and foster a high performance team culture, model desired behaviours and implement relevant tools and performance frameworks (University Performance Excellence Framework). Partner with Academic Leaders, other Faculty Managers, Core and Shared Services to ensure that team accountabilities are clear and that appropriate resources are deployed in response to the Faculty s strategic objectives. Ensure appropriate Learning and Development practices are in place to support the university s capability development needs and foster the achievement of individual development goals. Lead the Faculty HSW Team to enable an effective HSW culture that reinforces appropriate behaviours and accountabilities within Schools and across the whole Faculty. Actively engage in the HSW Community of Practice. Contribute to the strategic planning and review of resources and infrastructure across the Faculty to ensure current teaching and research needs are well understood and appropriately resourced. This will include providing input and advice, initiating and
3 Delivery & Service 4 Financial Accountabilities preparing discussion papers, policy recommendations, equipment submissions and performance reports. Partner with relevant Academic leadership and other Faculty Managers to identify emerging requirements and understand and plan for the implications of changing curriculum, pedagogy and research activities. Coordinate input into the development of wider university planning and policies, working in collaboration with the Infrastructure Branch, Information and Technology Services and other University Functions to ensure the needs of the Faculty are well articulated and understood. Facilitate the development of relevant business plans and business cases as necessary to enable the delivery of the Faculty s strategic and operational plans. Work with Core and Shared Services to identify opportunities to drive innovation, optimise the use of infrastructure and improve the delivery of technology support for teaching, research and external stakeholders. Liaise with the HR Branch to ensure appropriate alignment of University HSW Policy and Procedures to business needs. Ensure high quality, outcome-oriented Technical Support is provided in response to School and Faculty requirements. Manage both technical staff and physical resources to ensure that support of teaching and research laboratories is effective and efficient. Develop quality frameworks to ensure stakeholder needs are identified and to obtain regular feedback about the effectiveness of teaching and research support. Measure service outputs and identify and implement required improvements. Work collaboratively with core and shared services, and Faculty Managers to develop and deliver internally and externally funded infrastructure projects and complex equipment procurement. Oversee the coordination of HSW support across the Faculty. Foster a culture of safety and ensure that facilities are managed in compliance with statutory requirements and in consideration of the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.. Support improved safety performance within Schools through advice, planning, coaching and input into HSW related strategy. Support the Heads of School and Executive Dean to enable them to meet their responsibilities under the University s HSW Handbook. Provide a central point of accountability and coordination into the HR Branch to access specialist HSW support. Ensure that resource allocation is in line with the Faculty s strategic priorities and that resources are managed with a high level of utilisation. In partnership with the Faculty Finance Manager and Faculty Executive Director, develop and monitor the operational budget for shared research and teaching infrastructure support. Deliver support within agreed budgets and analyse relevant data to measure return on investments, report on achievements and to aid development of future support strategy.

Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards post graduate qualifications and extensive relevant management experience All Supervising staff are required to implement and maintain the University s Health Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Management System in areas under their control ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and the established Performance Standards. All other staff will assist the Head of School/Branch to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by working safely, adhering to instructions and using the equipment provided in accordance with safe operating procedures. Where appropriate, staff will initiate and participate in worksite inspections, accident reporting and investigations, develop safe work procedures and provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision. Staff will also inform the Head of School/Branch of any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions. All staff are expected to: Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of their team or work unit in order to meet University objectives.
