Abut Discvery Tl The AvePint Discvery Tl scans yur SharePint 2007, 2010, and 2013 envirnments frm the farm t item level and then generates reprts n aspects f yur farm. The Discvery Tl can generate Farm Infrmatin, General Statistics, Cnfiguratin, Custmizatin, Advanced, Summary, and Jb Infrmatin Reprts. These reprts can help prvide a better understanding f yur SharePint envirnment. Why Use the AvePint Discvery Tl The AvePint Discvery tl prvides cmprehensive scanning f and reprting n yur farm and can help yu prepare fr and react t different types f SharePint events, including: migratins, backups, and farm rerganizatins. Befre Yu Begin Refer t the fllwing sectins fr system and farm requirements that must be in place prir t using the Discvery Tl. System Requirements In rder t use the Discvery Tl fr SharePint 2007 r SharePint 2010, the Micrsft.NET Framewrk 3.5 Service Pack 1 r later must be installed and cnfigured prperly n yur machine. In rder t use the Discvery Tl fr SharePint 2013, the Micrsft.NET Framewrk 4.5 r later must be installed and cnfigured prperly n yur machine. Permissins Requirements The Discvery Tl must be installed n the Central Administratin server r n ne f the Web frntend servers f a SharePint 2007, 2010, r 2013 farm. Getting Started Refer t the sectins belw fr imprtant infrmatin n getting started with the AvePint Discvery Tl. Accessing Discvery Tl There are tw ways t access the Discvery Tl and leverage its functinalities: T use the standalne Discvery Tl, refer t the fllwing steps: i. Dwnlad the AvePint_Discvery_Tl_2.1.1.400_Serial_Number.zip file by cntacting yur AvePint representative fr links t this package. ii. Cpy the file t a Central Administratin server r ne f the Web frnt-end servers f a SharePint 2007, 2010, r 2013 farm. Extract this file. iii. Lcate either the DiscveryTl.exe (fr SharePint 2007 and SharePint 2010) r SP2013DiscveryTl.exe in the bin flder f the extracted file and dubleclick it. The DiscveryTl.exe (fr SharePint 2007 and SharePint 2010) and SP2013DiscveryTl.exe can be fund in the DcAve Agent installatin path: \AvePint\DcAve6\Agent\bin. User Interface Overview When yu launch the Discvery Tl, the fllwing user interface appears. This guided interface will help yu determine what kind f infrmatin yu d like t scan yur envirnment fr. Farm Infrmatin Use this sectin t cllect the farm infrmatin, such as farm tplgy infrmatin, cnfiguratin infrmatin, Web applicatin infrmatin, and cntent database infrmatin, t analyze the farm envirnment and structure better. Applicatins & Settings Use this sectin t cllect the cntent infrmatin, such as structure details, site cllectin infrmatin, custm template infrmatin, and custm Web part infrmatin, t analyze the cntent in the selected ndes. Discvery Tl Functins Refer t the fllwing sectins fr details abut the prvided functins. Farm Infrmatin T generate reprts n the farm infrmatin, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. Click the Farm Infrmatin ( ) buttn in the navigatin pane r the Farm Infrmatin buttn n the Discvery Tl interface. 2. In Scan Settings, cnfigure the scan fr the infrmatin that yu want t gather in rder t generate reprts. There are seven types f infrmatin that yu can select t scan; by default, hwever, each type f infrmatin s checkbx is already selected. Farm Tplgy Select this checkbx t cllect the farm tplgy infrmatin. Web Applicatin Infrmatin Select this checkbx t cllect the Web applicatins infrmatin in the farm. Cntent Database Select this checkbx t cllect all f the cntent databases infrmatin in the farm. Slutin Infrmatin Select this checkbx t cllect all f the farm slutins infrmatin. IIS Applicatin Infrmatin Select this checkbx t cllect the infrmatin f the files in the IIS bin flder and GAC flder that are created by IIS applicatins. Master Page Select this checkbx t cllect the custm master pages infrmatin in the farm. Language Infrmatin Select this checkbx t cllect the language infrmatin fr all f the servers in the farm. Click Select All t select all f the checkbxes, r click Clear All t deselect all f the checkbxes. 3. Click Next t g t the next step. 4. In the Reprt Lcatin step, cnfigure the fllwing settings: Hw wuld yu like t generate the reprt? Chse the methd f generating the reprts. CSV Use this ptin t stre the cllected infrmatin in CSV files. Enter a reprt lcatin fr the CSV files. Database Use this ptin t stre the cllected infrmatin in a database. Database Name Enter the name f the database where yu want t stre the cllected infrmatin. Authenticatin Mde Chse an authenticatin mde. Yu can select the Windws Authenticatin r SQL Authenticatin. Accunt Enter the accunt that has the db_wner permissin t the selected database. Passwrd Enter the passwrd fr the accunt abve. Yu can als validate the SQL database accunt by clicking Validatin Test. Reprt Lcatin Specify a lcatin t stre the reprts. The default lcatin is the bin flder f the current tl s directry. T change t anther lcatin, click Change Lcatin, select the desired lcatin, and click OK t save the new lcatin. *Nte: This field is displayed nly when yu select the CSV ptin abve. 5. Click Generate t generate the reprts n the selected types f infrmatin, r click Back t mdify the scan settings. 6. When the reprts are generated successfully, yu can d either f the fllwing: Click the Click Here link t g t the reprt lcatin directry. The reprts are stred in the flder named Date_Time. Fr detailed infrmatin n the reprts, refer t the Reprts sectin. Click the Hme Page link t g the hme page f the Discvery Tl. Applicatins & Settings T generate reprts n the applicatins and settings n the selected ndes, fllw the instructins belw: 1. Click the Applicatins & Settings ( ) buttn n the navigatin r the Applicatins & Settings link n the right pane f the Discvery Tl interface. 2. In the Nde Selectin step, click the farm t lad ndes under it. Select the ndes that yu want t scan by selecting the crrespnding checkbxes. 3. In Scan Settings, cnfigure the scan fr the infrmatin that yu want use t generate reprts. There are fur types f settings that yu can select t scan. General Statistics Cnfigure the settings in this tab t cllect general statistics. Web Applicatin Infrmatin Select this checkbx t cllect all f the Web applicatins infrmatin in the selected ndes. Exprt the site where the item cunt is greater than Select this checkbx t cllect the infrmatin f the site when there are mre than the cnfigured number f items in the site. The default value is set t 2000. Exprt the list whse last mdified date is in Select this checkbx t cllect the infrmatin f lists that were mdified within the specified time frame. Exprt the list whse created date is in Select this checkbx t cllect the infrmatin f the list that was created during the specified time frame. Exprt the site where the versin cunt f items is greater than Select this checkbx t cllect the infrmatin f the site when items in it have mre than the specified amunt f versins. In the Reprt Lcatin step, specify the methd yu want t use t stre the cllected infrmatin. Fr detailed infrmatin n the cnfiguratin in this step, refer t the step 4 in the Farm Infrmatin sectin. 5. Click Generate t run the jb and generate the reprts n the selected types f infrmatin, r click Back t mdify the scan settings. 6. When the reprts are generated successfully, yu can: Click the Click Here link t g t the reprt lcatin directry. The reprts are stred in the flder named Date_Time. License Manager Click License Manager n the navigatin. The License Manager interface appears and displays the current license infrmatin in the License Details field. The Status, Server Hst\IP, and Expiratin Time f the current license are displayed. If the current license has expired r des nt wrk, yu can apply a new license. Refer t the fllwing steps t apply a new license. In the License Manager interface, click Brwse. Select a new license file and click Open. The details f the new license are displayed. Click Apply t apply the new license, r click Cancel t cancel the changes. User Guide Click User Guide n the navigatin. The user guide f the Discvery Tl will pp up. Yu can view detailed infrmatin n the Discvery Tl in the guide. Abut Me Click Abut Me n the navigatin. The detailed infrmatin n the Discvery Tl versin is displayed in the pp-up windw. Reprts The reprts will be generated in the same directry as the tl. The flder name f the reprts is Date_Time (fr example, 20140107_150101). In the reprt flder, there is ne reprt named Discvery Tl Summary Reprt that cllects the basic reprts and gives the crrespnding descriptins and recmmendatins. The reprt titled Jb Infrmatin Reprt, cllects the infrmatin n the jb that generates the reprts, and different flders t stre different kinds f reprts. If yu cllect the farm infrmatin, the Farm Infrmatin Reprts flder will be generated in the reprt flder. If yu cllect the applicatins and settings infrmatin, the General Statistics Reprts, Cnfiguratin Reprts, Custmizatin Reprts, and Advanced Reprts flders will be generated in the reprt flder. Refer t the fllwing tables fr detailed infrmatin n each reprt. The Structure Details Reprt will generate a Discvery Tl Summary Reprt, which will cntain all the reprts listed in the Advanced Reprts table under Structure Details Reprt. Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt Settings In the \data\sp2010\discverytl directry f the extracted flder, many XML files are prvided, which allw yu t cnfigure settings fr the Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt. By cnfiguring the SP2010DiscveryTlReprtSetting.xml file, yu can chse the reprt type fr the Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt, specify the lists in the reprt, and which built-in clumns t include in the reprt. By cnfiguring the SP2010DiscveryTlMetadataCntrl.xml file, yu can chse t include all f the clumn infrmatin f items in the selected ndes r include the specified clumns infrmatin. By cnfiguring the SP2010DiscveryTlListCntrl.xml file, yu can chse t include the infrmatin f all f the lists in the selected ndes r include the specified lists infrmatin. Reprt Settings Befre generating the reprts, yu can mdify the SP2010DiscveryTlReprtSetting.xml file t cnfigure the settings fr the Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt. 1. Open the SP2010DiscveryTlReprtSetting.xml file with Ntepad. 2. Find the <CmpareReprtSetting> nde t cnfigure the reprt settings. reprttype Use this parameter t specify the reprt frmat. Yu have three ptins: TXT, XML, and CSV. The default value is TXT. *Nte: The Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt des nt supprt t be stred in the database. filterlist It is used t select whether t filter specified lists in the reprt r exclude them frm the reprt. If the value f the filterlist attribute is TRUE, the fllwing lists infrmatin will be excluded frm the reprt. If its value is FALSE, the fllwing lists infrmatin will be included in the reprt. *Nte: The cntent in the FilterList nde cannt be mdified. getcustmfields Chse whether r nt t include the built-in clumns in the reprt. TRUE Set the TRUE value t btain the custm clumn value and display them in the reprt. The value f the built-in clumns will be excluded frm the reprt. Metadata Settings The Metadata Settings feature is used t include the metadata infrmatin fr the specified clumns when generating the cmparisn infrmatin. By default, when yu select the Cmpare Infrmatin checkbx, nly the Mdified Time, Created Time, Mdified By, and Created By prperties will be included in the Item Infrmatin sectin in the Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt. If yu want t cmpare mre infrmatin f the items, yu can add the clumn names f the items int the SP2010DiscveryTlMetadataCntrl.xml file. Fllw the steps belw t cnfigure the settings: 1. Open the SP2010DiscveryTlMetadataCntrl.xml file with Ntepad. 2. Find the <MetadataCntrl key ="AllDataOutput" value ="False"> nde. If yu want t cmpare all f the clumn infrmatin f the items, mdify the value f the value attribute t True. True represents t utput all f the clumn values. If yu want t cmpare the specified metadata, mdify the value f the value attribute t False. False represents t utput the values nly fr the clumns under the <MetadataCntrl key ="AllDataOutput" value ="False"> nde. T add mre clumns, add the <add key ="MetadataTitle" value =""/> nde under the <MetadataCntrl key ="AllDataOutput" value ="False"> nde. Enter the clumn name as the value f the value attribute. 3. Save the mdificatins made t this file and clse it. After the cnfiguratin cmpletes, a reprt will be generated, and yu can find the reprt in the Cmpare Infrmatin flder in the reprt flders. Save the mdificatins made t this file and clse it. After the cnfiguratin cmpletes, reprts will be generated, and yu can find the reprt in the Cmpare Infrmatin Reprt flder in the reprt flders.
