JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Director of Marketing POST NO: SMG-M01 SERVICE: Marketing DATE: June 2015 STARTING DATE: As soon as possible SALARY RANGE: Six point scale on management range HOURS: Full time INDEFINITE/FIED TERM: Indefinite REPORTING TO: Deputy Vice-Chancellor THE POST To develop and deliver a strategy for the University s marketing, corporate identity and brand. To maximise the return from the University s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System. To line manage the marketing staff, to ensure the team is able to meet and exceed the needs of the University s external and internal customers. Working closely with the Director of Student Recruitment & Dean of Admissions, and the Director of External Relations and Communications, you will draw on data and intelligence to inform and underpin marketing plans and campaigns. To contribute to the success of the University through: leadership of branding and marketing activity; ensuring a first class applicant journey through initial contact and enquiry, and to support other functions such as applications and admissions; working in partnership with faculties and services; influencing portfolio development to ensure a relevant university offer to prospective students. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Drive the University s marketing strategy to support the University s corporate ambitions, ensuring it is current, agreed, and dynamic. 2. Provide evidence-informed strategic guidance to the Senior Management Team (SMT) and the Faculties on marketing, branding and web developments. 3. Support the University to achieve student recruitment targets and develop its profile and reputation using the full range of engagement activities including web design and social media, promotional materials and communication channels, all delivered to excellent standards.

4. Build, enable and inspire a team of highly effective and professional marketing staff, through developing and maintaining a creative and dynamic working environment. 5. Evolve the corporate brand and its applications to convey a visionary, forward looking university of quality and distinctiveness. 6. Ensure a professional and coordinated approach to marketing across the institution, raising brand awareness and managing reputation. 7. Utilise the CRM system to develop and implement data dashboards to analyse recruitment performance and deploy these to inform marketing activity and provide market intelligence. 8. Ensure maximum value from the CRM system, including monitoring and reporting on enquirers perception and recognition deploying this to inform brand strategy. 9. Oversee the research, development and application of new ways to attract and convert potential customers through use of new and emerging digital media and technologies. 10. Influence course portfolio development through market analysis, working in partnership with the Finance and Planning teams and faculty colleagues. 11. Engage with the University s partner institutions to ensure they maximise recruitment potential. 12. Work in close partnership with the External Relations and Communications team on projects and activities that share common goals. 13. Oversee relationships with external partners and suppliers including design, print and media buying agencies, ensuring value for money and that the Marketing team works within the financial boundaries and regulations of the University. 15. General Information It is anticipated that this job description will change over time in accordance with the needs of the role. The role holder will be fully consulted on any proposed amendments. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE The appointment will be made on a six point scale within the management range. Exact placement on the range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Annual progression up to point 11 is dependent upon satisfactory performance. Progression beyond this point is dependent upon excellent performance. Salary is paid monthly in arrears by direct credit transfer on the last working day of each month. Your normal centre of duty will be the King Alfred Campus in Winchester. However, you may be required to work in any part or department of the University and in any Campus of the University, or as otherwise required for the due performance of your duties and responsibilities.

The appointment will, in an appropriate case, be subject to a probationary period of 6 months. The annual leave year runs from 1 August to 31 July. Holiday entitlement is 30 days per annum, plus Bank holidays and two extra statutory days. A proportion of the entitlement is allowed pro rata for part-time staff working less than five days per week and/or not throughout the year, and for all support staff during first leave year at the University. Other terms and conditions of employment appropriate to this post and grade apply in addition to those referred to in this statement. Facilities Staff catering facilities are available. West Downs Day Nursery - is situated within the grounds of The University of Winchester. The nursery offers care for children from the age of six weeks to five years in a stimulating and homely environment. The nursery provides 62 places each day from 7.30am to 6.15pm on a full time or sessional basis. The opening times are designed to accommodate the working parent who may wish to continue their career. Further details are available from the Human Resources Department. Sports facilities are available, e.g. gym, squash, badminton, cricket, indoor soccer, tennis, etc and staff organise their own sporting activities.
