CERTIFICATIONS Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to write certification exams leading to the following designations: 3 Microsoft MCTS designations, 1 Microsoft MCITP designation, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network + and CompTIA Linux +. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS High School Graduation Diploma or Mature Student Status (18 years of age and academic achievement test passed). In addition, an entrance examination must be successfully passed. Accreditation Policy: Like all post-secondary institutions in Ontario, trios College reserves the right to accept or deny advanced standing into its programs. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Diploma: trios diplomas will be granted only to students who successfully complete all courses in the program with a passing grade of 60% (or a grade of complete where applicable). As well, students must meet the minimum Standards of Satisfactory Scholastic Progress as set out in our Student Handbook. For programs that include an internship, all internship hours must be completed and a final grade of Pass must be achieved for the internship. Diploma with Honours: Where an overall average of 90% is maintained and a student meets all standards related to contact hours, the student is eligible for "Honours" status upon graduation and such status will be recorded on his/her Diploma and Official Transcript. Diploma with Distinction: Where an overall average of 80% is maintained and a student meets all standards related to contact hours, the student is eligible for "Distinction" status upon graduation and such status will be recorded on his/her Diploma and Official Transcript. CompTIA A+ OPERATING SYSTEMS This course introduces essential operating system skills required of a software support technician. Together with the A+ Hardware course, it covers the skills necessary to achieve the CompTIA A+ Certification. More specifically, students learn how to use, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and maintain the DOS, Window 9x, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP family of operating systems. Networking technologies and non- Windows operating systems will also be introduced. CompTIA A+ HARDWARE TECHNOLOGIES This course introduces the essential skills required of a microcomputer hardware service technician. Together with the A+ Operating Systems course, this course covers the materials necessary to achieve the CompTIA A+ Certification. More specifically, students learn the features of various hardware devices, as well as their configuration and maintenance. In addition, students upgrade, troubleshoot and repair microcomputer systems. CompTIA NETWORK+ In this course students will learn the theory and concepts required to successfully administer and troubleshoot TCP/IP networks. In addition, this course provides the conceptual foundation for later networking courses and introduces the concepts covered on the CompTIA Network+ Certification. TECHNOLOGY COMMUNICATION & TIME MANAGEMENT Communication and time management skills are vital to success in today s IT industry. Proper grammar when composing emails to staff and clients, effective structure for proposals and clarity on incident reports are often cited as skills that are lacking in IT staff. Students in this program will have the opportunity to perfect the writing and speaking skills required in IT professions today. 70-680 & 70-685: WINDOWS 7 SUPPORT AND CONFIGURATION These courses introduce the skills and knowledge necessary to install, configure, administer, and support Microsoft Windows 7. In addition, students will learn about the various tools for administering, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows 7 including the Microsoft Management Console, Task Scheduler, Control Panel, Device Manager, the registry editor, and a variety of wizards. Specifically, students will learn how to deploy and upgrade to Windows 7, as well as configure disks, users, drivers, printers, network interfaces and security within the Windows 7 operating system. Furthermore, these courses discuss the architecture, management and troubleshooting of applications on the Windows 7 platform. These courses are a prerequisite for all other Microsoft courses and covers the material tested on the Microsoft Windows 7 Configuration Certification Exam (70-680) and the Microsoft Windows 7 MCITP Enterprise Desktop Support Certification Exam (70-685) needed to obtain the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) Enterprise Desktop Support Technician designation. SUPPORTING SMARTPHONE DEVICES Smartphones have become the standard method to access secure email and calendar information within many organizations. This course introduces students to structure and function of the ActiveSync protocol used by iphone, Android, and Windows Phone devices to access this information, as well as the structure and function of the BlackBerry Infrastructure, which BlackBerry devices use to access the same information within their organization. In addition, this course provides the material necessary to achieve the Linux+ certification. 70-662: MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER 2010 ADMINISTRATION This course introduces the skills and knowledge necessary to implement, manage and troubleshoot Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. It is also designed to help individuals preparing to write the Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 certification exam (70-662). To participate in this course, you must have successfully completed an introduction to Windows 7. ENTERPRISE SMARTPHONE ADMINISTRATION Many email administrators today must also provide configuration and support for mobile smartphone devices. This course introduces students to the concepts and procedures used to administer ActiveSync-based and BlackBerry smartphones in an enterprise environment that uses Microsoft Exchange Server. More specifically, students will learn to implement, configure, support and maintain ActiveSync devices (iphone, Android and Windows Phone) on Microsoft Exchange server as well as install, configure, support and maintain BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange. 70-432: MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2008 SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION This course introduces the concepts and skills required to administer Microsoft SQL Server 2008. More specifically, you will learn how to install and upgrade a SQL Server, create database and transfer data into databases. Additional topics include: how to manipulate information, XML data and system objects such as triggers and stored procedures, back up and system restoration, user databases, managing the security of SQL Server 2008 and its databases, configuration and set up tasks, automating routine administrative tasks, replication, clustering and monitoring SQL Server. At course completion, the student will have covered the material tested on the SQL Server 2008 Microsoft Certification Exam (70-432).
