Please Note: Registration for enrichment classes is on a first come, first served basis. Sign up early to ensure your child s enrollment in the class of their choice. MOST CLASSES CAPPED AT 10 There are no classes on early release days. The exception is Chess which takes place in the morning. Even on early release days there will be Chess in the morning. Each class must have a minimum of 7 students enrolled in order to occur unless otherwise noted on class details. Classes that do not meet the minimum requirement registered by the deadline will be cancelled; therefore please ensure you choose an alternate class for your child. All parents will receive a class confirmation detailing the following: class name, class location, name of the instructor, and any class specific instructions. You will receive an email if your class is cancelled. If you chose an alternative class, your child will be placed in that class automatically. Dismissal for classes will be at Door #5 (next to the All Purpose Room) unless the class is held in the portable. In those cases, the classes will be dismissed directly from the portable, on the Norfolk St. side of the school. No child shall be excluded due to inability to pay. Art: Back by demand! Please note start date below Art is expressing and observing. Art is getting something that is inside you to the outside. Classes designed to increase student awareness of the different kinds of art. This class will evolve from free drawing, to guided color exercises, to precise perspective drawing. We will use a lot of materials like coal, watercolor and oil pastels. Holy cartoons, Bat Man! These classes combine photography, work with personal computer and digital camera, creative thinking, drawing and FUN. We will learn how to create simple cartoons; all kids can be camera operator, director, animator and music editor at the same time. Every project will be uploaded on YouTube so kids would be able to share their cartoons with family and friends. Computer Club: Fills fast! Sign up quickly! Students who sign up for the Clarke School Computer Club will be having fun as they develop their computer skills. Some of the planned activities are discovering Microsoft Word, exploring appropriate websites and games, using the new laptops and using the new Ipads- and of course some free time for games! German can be a difficult language, but with this fun and interactive class children will be introduced to both the spoken language as well as the German culture! Foreign language awareness and listening and speaking skills get playfully developed and supported by books, games and vocabulary materials. It is a great time to stay inside and learn to knit. This class is designed for beginners. We will be knitting winter scarves. It will be a lot of fun and students will have a scarf to keep them warm! Donna Cohen is a Special Ed teacher at Clarke School and also The Middle School Field Hockey Coach. Many years ago, Ms.Donna's neighbor taught her how to knit in order to obtain a Girl Scout badge. She has been enjoying knitting ever since. Frozen Science: new! a wicked cool class! Love all things Frozen? Go on a Frozen Science expedition! We ll make frozen slime, create six-pointed snowflakes, and make our own magical indoor snow. Grow cold crystals and make a spectacular density-based snow globe. Join the sewing class and have fun learning a new craft. Students will learn the basics of hand sewing and make an adorable animal pillow. Our goal is to have fun, learn to sew, be creative, and have sewing adventures that last a lifetime. Kids create bots with motors and sensors and program them on our own computers. They will follow guideline to build their robots and then write the programs to get their robots working. LEGOS with Friends: build together! Come build and play with all of your friends! This class is designed to provide members with an enjoyable activity that stimulates and develops spatial intelligence. Students will build vehicles, buildings, gears and whatever leaps into their imaginations! We will offer your child a time to relax, create, innovate and collaborate! Instructor: Cindy Scott, Clarke School teacher Class Fee: $80.00 Grades: K - 2 Mondays Yoga for Kids: relaxing, healthy and fun! Children will learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment which helps them navigate life s challenges with more ease. The Kids Yoga program encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a noncompetitive physical activity. It enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, it improves their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation. Our workouts are self-paced, individually challenging and are a lot of fun! GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS For Parents: If your child is going to be absent from their ASP class but they are not absent from school you must notify the office. The ASP instructor takes attendance to ensure all students are accounted for to ensure safety of all students. Parents should make a note of when their child s ASP class begins and ends and remind their child on the given day. Parents need to be prompt when picking their child up from their ASP class. For Students: All students meet outside the office where their ASP Instructor will meet them and bring them to their ASP classroom. If they attend Extended Day on the day of their ASP class they must first sign in at Extended Day. All students enrolled in an ASP are expected to adhere to the same Code of Conduct that is followed during the school day. If a child should have difficulty following the Code of Conduct Mrs. Hunt will contact the parent, and a resolution will be discussed. Extra curricular activities sponsored by the district are nondiscriminatory in that: 1.
