1 HARLAND SIMON WEB BASED TRAINING COURSES 1.1 INTRODUCTION We can now offer interactive, self-paced training courses to teach the core tasks required to effectively monitor and trouble-shoot your control system elements. The courses provide an overview of the technology driving and controlling the system. how The system communicates To monitor the status of the system To navigate the program ladder logic online To identify and correct faults through step-by step demonstrations You will learn The courses cover software features available to maintenance staff and through examples you will see how to perform the available tasks. Helpful animations, background information and links to other reference materials providing you with a variety of knowledge and learning tools. You will also have the opportunity to practice performing software tasks through desktop sharing and examples and be given feedback on your performance to reinforce learning. You will also be given opportunities to test your knowledge through questions and answer sessions. These question and answer sessions will allow you to gauge your knowledge level and help you identify areas for improvement. 1.2 INTENDED AUDIENCE These web based training courses are intended for the following audiences: People who prefer self-paced instruction People who cannot attend classroom training People who need refresher training People interested in specific features and capabilities of their system 1.3 PREREQUISITES To successfully complete this course, you should be able to perform basic Microsoft Windows tasks. 2 HARLAND SIMON WEB BASED TRAINING 2.1 ESSENTIALS Here is a quick guide to getting the best results during your web based training. To use the web training you need a PC & Broadband Internet Access. The quality and speed of your online meeting experience will be governed by the features you use, your PC and video hardware, and the internet connection. 2.1.1 ESSENTIAL PC AUDIO & VIDEO PERIPHERALS The following peripherals are highly recommended to maximize the training session experience. webcam headphones or speakers microphone or speaker phone 2.1.2 MINIMUM USER PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Windows 2000, XP or later Pentium 4 processor or newer 512MB RAM available memory Broadband Internet Connection Compatible soundcard, headset and microphone 2.2 SHARED FILES & HANDOUTS Our trainer can share files with other participants in the training course where relevant. 3 PRIMA MS OVERVIEW Delivery This course is delivered by one of our skilled tutors and has been developed to for Press Production staff. Any training material that is included will be transferred via the training video system. Who should attend? Personnel who do not utilize the system on a day to day basis but require an introduction to its capabilities and usage on site. Aims and Objectives On completion of the course, participants will Have an appreciation of the role played by the PRIMA management system A basic understanding of impositions, jobs planning and utilization of the PRIMA MS in day to day production Course duration The Harland Simon PRIMA MS Overview is a half day course comprising of 2 x 2 hour sessions. starts at a time previously mutually agreed by both parties. 4 LOGIX 5000 PLC MAINTENANCE Delivery This course is delivered by one of our skilled tutors and has been developed to allow for a percentage of hands on practical training. Any training material that is included will be transferred via the training video system. Who should attend? The target audience is Electrical/Electronic Engineers, technicians, maintenance, IT staff and anyone who is involved, or likely to become involved in maintaining and supporting the control system. Aims and Objectives On completion of the course, participants will be able to: Identify the common components of a ControlLogix system Go online to a Logix 5000 processor using RSLogix5000 software Interpret the basic layout of a Logix5000 project View and interpret basic ladder logic within a Logix5000 controller Use RSLogix5000 software as a faultfinding tool Download a backup copy of the application into an empty/new processor Interpret common relay ladder-logic instructions and program flow Use RSLogix5000 Trends to troubleshoot your software Course duration The Harland Simon Logix5000 plc maintenance overview is a half day course comprising of 2 x 2 hour sessions. 5 HS PRESS CONTROL SYSTEM DAILY PRINTING TASKS Explains the workflow steps required to successfully prepare, plan and preset ready to print a typical web offset press print production schedule. Delivery This web based training course is delivered by one of our skilled tutors and has been developed for Press Production staff. Any training material that is included will be transferred via the training video system. Who should attend? Production personnel who utilise the Harland Simon press control & management system on a day to day basis to plan production and print newspapers. Aims and Objectives On completion of the course the participant will: Be conversant with the essential steps to take to prepare, plan and preset the press ready to produce a newspaper utilizing the Harland Simon press control & management system. Have an appreciation of the role played by the core PRIMA management system applications. A brief understanding of the impositions, jobs, planning and utilization of the Prima MS in day to day production Be familiar with the Prima 6000 desk console planning & presetting functions. Course duration The Harland Simon press control & management system overview is a half day course comprising of 2 x 2 hour sessions. 6 HS CONTROL SYSTEM & PRESS CALIBRATION THEORY Delivery This course is delivered by one of our skilled tutors and has been developed for staff who will be taking ownership of the Presetting strategy. Any training material that is included will be transferred via the training video system. Who should attend? Personnel who will utilise the Presetting system on a day to day basis should attend this course. Note: It is essential that a key individual and/or team be identified to take ownership of the pre-setting activity. This individual or team should implement a strategy to develop a systematic and thorough approach to ensure that the pre-setting results are providing fairly consistent quality results. The benefits in terms of waste and copy quality, obtained by the application of the Prima MS pre-setting tool kit, will be in direct proportion to the efforts of the production team who use it. Aims and Objectives On completion of the course, participants will be able to: Identify the pre-press, pressroom and post production steps required to effectively preset Be familiar with the Prima MS core applications; Jobs, Impositioning and planning Calibrate the Prima MS to account for offsets / drift within the presetting control system Operate the adaptive control facilities Utilise Page Tracking as a diagnostics tool Use Ink Viewer to diagnose the ink values sent to the press and their hot saves at good copy Course duration The Harland Simon Presetting / Calibration course is a half day course comprising of 2 x 2 hour sessions. Course content This course outlines the typical steps to be taken to call ink presets from the customers Prepress Workflow system, through RIPSet, Page Tracking and Prima MS modules, and onto the HS Prima 6000 desk. Some possible issues encountered and suggested remedies are mentioned. Pre-press activities and the RIPSet server suite with Page tracking as a diagnostic tool Ink Controls application and the available configurable items: Curves - Ink / Dampener / Press Speed Couple offsets/factors Registration and compensators Adaptive control Building jobs with suitable impositions available to plan and prepare for daily production Prima 6000 desk console interface to the Prima MS server Prima 6000 desk console planning and prepare menus and functions The Ink Viewer application and investigations to improve preset accuracies V1.x Harland Simon plc Page 18
