NEW ONLINE COURSE REQUIREMENT Students must complete a minimum of a ½ credit online in order to graduate Students can do this independently via Florida Virtual School (flvs.net) Many students do this over the summer before entering high school Elective classes like Psychology, Sociology, Driver s Ed (15 yrs. old), Computers, Foreign Language NO CORE CLASSES!!! Need counselor approval to register online Middle School counselor will approve summer enrollments If not completed by 12 th grade, must take Government and/or Economics online during the school day
FOR THE COLLEGE BOUND Junior & Senior year courses are a major consideration for college admission SAT/ACT 2 consecutive years of a foreign language Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II Biology, Chemistry, Physics
FCAT SCORES If you score a level 1or 2 on the Reading FCAT, you will have Intensive Reading. Can impact placement/level of courses i.e. Pre-AP and AP classes Remember, Intensive Reading counts as an elective credit!
8 TH GRADE FCAT IS HUGE!! How current 8 th graders do on next week s FCAT will determine their placement into classes for 9 th grade i.e. need Level 3 for Pre-AP classes or to take Foreign Language May get an Intensive Reading Class as a result Please encourage your student to take the test seriously and do the best he/she can!
