CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (CDA 2.0) Child Development Associates (CDAs) are skilled caregivers with demonstrated ability to work with newborn through five-year-old children, infant and toddler or preschool children and their families. Essentials 2.0 for Child Development Associates: Working With Young Children (approximately $66) and CDA Assessment Packet ($34) are the textbooks used for all components of the CDA program. College Credit is available through an articulation agreement with Scott Community College, Clinton Community College and Muscatine Community College. Students who have successfully completed the Child Development Associate Credential by completing their course work through the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, Continuing Education Division, successfully completed the portfolio, work experience and Credentialing Examination may be eligible to receive up to 17 hours of college credit towards a degree at Scott Community College, Clinton Community College or Muscatine Community College. COMPLETE PROGRAM LISTING A Child Development Associate (CDA) is a person who is able to meet the specific needs of children and who, with parents and other adults, works to nurture children s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth in a child development framework. - Council for Professional Recognition Eastern Iowa Community College s CDA program is for experienced child caregivers or those who want to enter the field. The program includes 120 hours of class work plus 480 hours of field experience, all designed to give you the background to provide quality, professional child care. When you complete the program, you will be eligible to take the CDA national credentialing assessment. Eligibility: You must be at least 18 years old and have earned your high school diploma or GED. Every student by the end of grade twelve shall complete certification course for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR.) The administrator of a school may waive this requirement if the student is not physically able to successfully complete the training.
