Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in serving patients (receiving, processing, and filling prescriptions and medication orders; determining charges and obtaining reimbursement, including insurance and Medicare payments), maintaining medication and inventory control systems, and participating in the administration and management of the pharmacy practice. Graduates may find work at retail or hospital pharmacies. The Summer 2016 accelerated program will be 3-months in duration with limited number of partial scholarships available to qualified students. This program will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:15pm-8:45pm. 1
2 The Fall 2016 regular program will be 4.5 months in duration and meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:15pm-8:15pm. Upon satisfactory progress in the classroom portion, students will then be placed at various pharmacy sites out in the community to complete their 160 hours of practicum. The practicum days and times may be flexible; however, students will need to complete these hours in a timely manner. To be eligible for this program, you will need to meet certain English and Math prerequisites to register. Please see the section on ADMISSION AND COSTS for details. The student must achieve a minimum grade of 70% on exams and other competency attainment requirements in order to earn this Certificate of Competence. STUDENT TESTIMONIALS Your KCC Pharmacy Technician class was essential for me in starting my new career in the pharmacy field. The contacts you have provided helped get my foot in the door at Tripler Army Medical Center. And with persistence, I was able to get hired as a federal worker. I am currently the technician for the main vault in the hospital and it all started with KCC s program. Paul H. (KCC Pharmacy Technician Program graduate) The KCC Pharmacy Technician Program was helpful in gearing me towards obtaining my pharmacy technician certification. The curriculum is well structured and the instructor makes learning fun. Elaine P. (Spring 2014 graduate) By the end of this program, you ll know more than a large handful of drug names. Good class to take to prepare you for the PTCB exam. You get hands-on experience also with the clinical requirement. Kempee B. (Summer 2014 graduate) The class prepared me very well for the certification exam. I also really enjoyed having the chance to actually work in a pharmacy before graduating. Carlene B. (Spring 2014 graduate) The education I got whilst attending the KCC Pharmacy Technician Program gave me the knowledge to succeed out at any pharmacy or hospital. The instructors made the class enjoyable and fun. Connie M. (Summer 2014 graduate) The KCC Pharmacy Technician Program at KCC is a great option if you want to fast track a career in the medical field. Junafe U. (Spring 2014 graduate) The program was very organized. Martin, Phil, and Brande are so friendly and I enjoyed this program a lot! Definitely recommend to anyone interested. Rachael C. (Spring 2014 graduate) 2
