3 Child Eligibility - Residency A person must live in the state of Iowa to be eligible for Child Care Assistance Child Eligibility Citizenship or Alien Status All applicants must declare their citizenship or alien status in writing. Family Eligibility Determining Family Size The most frequent family types are those with: Legal spouses (including common law) who live in the same household Natural, adoptive, or stepmother or stepfather and children under the age of 18 (under age 19 if the child has special needs) who live in the same household 3

5 Child Care Provider Eligibility Child care center Child development home Department of Education license exempt facility (Does not include an instructional program for children who are attending prekindergarten as defined by the State Board of Education under section or a higher grade level and are at least four years of age and the program is administrated by a school system accredited or non-accredited by the Department of Education or State Board of Regents.) Person that provides child care in the child s home (must care for a minimum of three children that meet child eligibility criteria) Nonregistered child care home Family - Notice of Decision Approved/not approved for the Child Care Assistance Program If approved, the notice also indicates Certification period # of child care units approved Co-pay amount Approved provider Child Care Provider Certificate of Enrollment Certification period # of child care units approved Co-pay amount 5

6 CCA Certification Period The length of the certification period depends on the need for service approved: Employment Academic or vocational training Combination of employment and academic or vocational training Job search Medical absence or incapacity Child Care Units Approved One unit is up to five (5) hours of service during a 24-hour period The number of units approved is based on the need for service, including travel time An example.
