Moderator Serena Worthington Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) Serena Worthington is the Director of Community Advocacy and Capacity Building at SAGE where she oversees SAGE s policy advocacy efforts at the national, state and local levels and enhances the capacity of partner organizations across the country working with LGBT older people. In this role, she oversees the National LGBT Aging Roundtable and SAGENet, a network of 21 SAGE affiliates in 16 states and the District of Columbia. Serena s most recent position was as the Senior Director of Public Programs of Chicago s Center on Halsted, the Midwest s largest LGBT community center. Prior to this, Serena was the founding director of SAGE Center on Halsted and before that, the Life Enrichment Director at Norwood Crossing, a long-term and assisted living facility on Chicago s Northwest Side. She is also a licensed professional counselor. 4

Panelist Michael Adams Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) Michael Adams is the Executive Director of SAGE Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders. SAGE is the oldest and largest organization in the country dedicated to transforming the LGBT aging experience. In partnership with SAGE affiliates countrywide, SAGE serves countless LGBT older people nationally via technical assistance, trainings and services as well as advocacy at every level of government. In 2009, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services selected SAGE to establish and run the country's first and only National Resource Center on LGBT Aging. Prior to joining SAGE, Michael was the Director of Education and Public Affairs for Lambda Legal. Prior to that, Michael spent a decade leading cutting-edge litigation that established new rights for LGBT people, first as Associate Director of the ACLU's Lesbian and Gay Rights Project, and then as Deputy Legal Director at Lambda Legal. A graduate of Stanford Law School and Harvard College, Michael has authored numerous publications on an array of LGBT issues. He has taught law school courses on sexual orientation and gender identity and has served on advisory councils for AARP, the American Society on Aging, and the New York City Department for the Aging among others. Michael has discussed and debated LGBT issues on hundreds of media programs, including Larry King Live, The O'Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, and NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered. He has twice been named one of the "100 most influential gay men and lesbians" by Out Magazine. 6

Panelist Kenneth J. Carroll HUD Kenneth J. Carroll directs the Fair Housing Assistance Program (FHAP) Division in the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. FHAP is a $28 million/year funding program for state and local enforcement of fair housing laws that are substantially equivalent to the federal Fair Housing Act. Ken also coordinates HUD efforts to ensure equal access of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to housing and HUD programs. Ken helped draft and is implementing Equal Access to Housing in HUD Programs Regardless of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity, a HUD rule published as final in the Federal Register on February 3, 2012. 7

Panelist Chris Bartlett William Way Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community Center John C. Anderson Apartments, Philadelphia, PA Chris Bartlett is the Executive Director of the William Way Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community Center in Philadelphia (http://www.waygay.org). For over 20 years, he has been an innovative thinker and leader in technology-driven community organizing, having led the SafeGuards Gay Men's Health Project, the LGBT Community Assessment, and the national LGBT Leadership Initiative. He serves on the board of Centerlink, the international organization of LGBT community centers, and is a member of the LGBT Advisory Committee for Mayor Michael Nutter. Panelist Eric Harrison Gay and Lesbian Elder Housing Triangle Square and The Argyle, Hollywood, CA Eric Harrison is the Executive Director of Gay & Lesbian Elder Housing (GLEH), a Los Angeles based nonprofit dedicated to building and operating high quality, affordable, multi-cultural housing developments for LGBT seniors with comprehensive aging in place services. Its flagship development, Triangle Square is the first LGBT friendly affordable housing complex in the nation serving LGBT seniors with a second LGBT friendly housing project, The Argyle is slated to open its doors in 2014. Prior to GLEH, he served as development director for Equality California, the largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights advocacy organization in the nation since 2009. Harrison previously served in executive and managerial positions at United Ways in the Bay Area since 2002. United Way of America named Harrison an Emerging LGBT Leader in 2005 and a Resident Fellow in 2006. Harrison holds a bachelor s degree in Communications and French from Concordia College and an MBA from the Minnesota School of Business. 11

Panelist Seth Kilbourn Openhouse 55 Laguna, San Francisco, CA Seth Kilbourn joined Openhouse as its Executive Director in August 2008. Since then, Seth has significantly advanced the mission of Openhouse to provide housing, direct services and community programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) seniors. Under Seth s leadership, Openhouse has doubled its staff and the number of seniors it serves each year. Seth oversees Openhouse s work building 110 units of affordable senior housing, in addition to its training and direct service programs. As the former Political and Policy Director of Equality California, Seth managed a high-profile h statewide t public education campaign supporting same-sex marriage. Before moving to California in 2006, he was Vice President for the Marriage Project and National Field Director at the Human Rights Campaign, the country s largest LGBT advocacy group in Washington, D.C. He started his public service career as a Presidential Management Intern and HIV/AIDS policy analyst at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Seth holds a bachelor s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan. 14

Panelist Britta Larson Center on Halsted 3600 N Halsted, Chicago, IL Britta Larson is the Senior Services Director at Center on Halsted, the Midwest's most comprehensive community center dedicated to building and strengthening the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community. Ms. Larson is responsible for overseeing the older adult programs at Center on Halsted which serves over 500 seniors annually. Additionally, she manages the nation s first homesharing program designed for LGBTQ older adults. Prior to coming to Center on Halsted Ms. Larson worked for 8 years at a senior living community in the areas of social services and marketing. She is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and holds a Master s degree in Nonprofit Management from North Park University. 16

Panelist Barbara Satin GLBT Generations Spirit on Lake, Twin Cities, MN Barbara Satin is a 79 year old transgender activist and a co-founder of GLBT Generations, a Minnesota based organization that has worked on GLBT aging issues and was a primary force behind Spirit on Lake This affordable rental project is focused on providing safe, secure and welcoming space for GLBT seniors in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul and will open in September 2013. Of the projects 46 units, five are reserved for people who have been homeless. 18

Panelist Imani Woody Mary s House for Older Adults, Inc., Washington, DC Dr. Woody is the founding director, President and CEO of Mary s House for Older Adults, Inc. a LGBT Friendly Facility, a project developing LGBT friendly residential housing for older adults in Washington, DC. Dr. Woody was appointed by DC Mayor Vincent Gray to the Advisory Committee to the Office of GLBT Affairs, is an Advisory Board Member of the SAGE National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and is the Chair of SAGE Metro DC. She currently is a Program Officer for the 50+ Ministry of the Metropolitan Community Churches. Dr. Imani Woody has a PhD in Human Services specializing in non-profit management. Her thesis explored issues germane to older African American lesbians and gay males access to community services. She holds a Master of Human Services degree from Lincoln University and is a graduate of Georgetown University s Paralegal program. Dr. Woody is a subject matter expert and diversity consultant in the field of aging and issues affecting LGBT and people color communities. DC. She lives with her wife of thirteen years in Brookland, WDC, USA. 20
