2 OUR WORK Our mission is to collaborate and innovate with people who change lives through philanthropic vision and action. For nearly 40 years, we ve worked with organizations at critical points in their growth and development, when our expertise and partnership approach can have a powerful impact. Today we have four primary counsel offerings and service lines, advancement planning, including major gift fundraising and capital campaigns, executive search, communications, and strategic information services and analytics. We immerse ourselves in learning each client s culture, constituencies and challenges, and we work with the organization s staff, board members and other leaders to develop a coherent strategy for achieving the organization s goals. Our client engagements include work with distinguished organizations such as: Northwestern Memorial Foundation, (Chicago, IL); American Red Cross (Washington, DC); Alzheimer s Association (Chicago, IL); San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (San Francisco, CA); Ronald McDonald House Charities (Oak Brook, IL); Seattle University (Seattle, WA); University of San Francisco (San Francisco, CA); Latin School of Chicago (Chicago, IL); Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School (Washington, DC); Kentucky Country Day School (Louisville, KY); The Nature Conservancy Worldwide Office (Arlington, VA); World Wildlife Fund (Washington, DC); Goodman Theatre (Chicago, IL); The Guthrie Theatre (Minneapolis, MN) and the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC). Collectively, Campbell & Company consists of close to 65 staff members, including 37 in Chicago and the Midwest, seven staff members based on the West Coast, three based on the East Coast and 17 members from Collins Group, a division of Campbell & Company in the Northwest. Our consultants work in teams to provide the right balance of expertise, experience and seniority for each client. Over time, each consultant has opportunities to work with and gain knowledge from every other consultant on our staff. DIRECTOR OF MARKETING Campbell & Company seeks a new to advance our position as a pre-eminent consultancy to nonprofit organizations and institutions. S/he has overall responsibility to refine the Campbell & Company brand and expand the visibility of the firm; partner with consultants to assist and strengthen their business development; and promote the credentials of the firm and its consultants, including developing thought leadership. Located in Campbell & Company s Chicago headquarters, this position reports to the firm s Executive Vice President and leads a team of three associates. 2
3 RESPONSIBILITIES The s responsibilities include the following: Brand With the senior team, division heads, and regional and sector leaders within the firm, develop strategies to promote Campbell & Company sector expertise and credentials regionally and nationally to potential clients and professional organizations. Develop the annual marketing plan for Campbell & Company, consistent with the goals and objectives of the firm s strategic plan. The marketing plan may include but not be limited to the firm s plan for advertising, lead identification, sponsorships, conference exhibits, thought leadership opportunities such as speaking engagements, articles and blog posts, firm-hosted presentations, webinars, direct e/marketing, public relations and marketing/sales collateral. Manage the firm s brand, including but not limited to its look and visual consistency. Oversee the Campbell & Company style guide. Develop and maintain the quarterly nonprofit e-news for clients, former clients and friends; work with Campbell & Company writers and consultants to develop content. Provide strategic oversight for content on Campbell & Company website, ensure it is brand relevant and optimized for mobile search. Enhance the firm s social media strategy and presence in the marketplace. Business Development Work with division heads and Vice Presidents to develop marketing plans for their practice regions and specialties. Oversee the firm s CRM platform on Salesforce; partner with and educate consultants about effective usage to identify and track business development opportunities and impact of marketing efforts. Work with members of the firm to implement a cloud-based document management system. Assist consultants in conducting on-line and literature research to support presentations, including new business presentations, as well as presentations at conferences and seminars. Thought Leadership Together with firm leadership, consultants and staff, manage and produce the firm s thought leadership offerings as they apply to research initiatives, market surveys, webinars, outside publications, conference presentations, and seminars. Ensure thought leadership topics can be repurposed for delivery on multiple platforms. 3
4 Develop relationships with editors in trade publications that focus on philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. Develop public relations strategies to showcase the firm s events and significant achievements. Work with consultants to develop and/or provide assistance on articles for placement in appropriate trade and professional journals. Promote Campbell & Company consultants as thought leaders on issues in advancement among trade and general media. Monitor opportunities for conference speaking engagements, promote the firm s participation at these conferences and work with consultants to ensure timely and appropriate requests for speaking. Leadership & Management Influence the direction of the firm; collaborate with the senior team, division heads, and regional and sector leaders to set marketing goals and strategies. Lead, manage, develop and mentor a team of three marketing associates in a manner that ensures quality and relevant content is created and disseminated. Manage outside vendors of marketing and communications services. In conjunction with Campbell & Company s writing team, ensure quality, consistency and accuracy of new business proposals. Work with writers and consultants on continuing improvements in the language and visual presentation for all proposals and new business presentations. Develop and oversee the marketing budget. QUALIFICATIONS The will bring the following qualifications: Minimum of seven to ten years senior level marketing experience, ideally B2B, within a professional service firm or similar type of organization. Passion for the nonprofit market; prior experience with nonprofit organizations, either as a professional or volunteer, would be an advantage. Digital marketing experience, including e-marketing is mandatory. Demonstrated experience setting a creative direction that moves creative concepts into a sound marketing and communications strategy. 4
5 Ability to translate strategic plans into marketing initiatives; demonstrated success with marketing plan implementation that includes business development and thought leadership and research initiatives. Experience using and managing Salesforce or other CRM. Experience with HubSpot (or other content management systems) to maintain and improve the company website. Proven experience developing social media platforms. Excellent ability to collaborate successfully with a variety of constituencies. Superior writing and presentation skills. Capacity to see the big picture while managing details. High degree of personal leadership. Bachelor s degree; advanced work in marketing-related disciplines and/or an advanced degree would be an advantage. Ability to travel occasionally.
