Graduates of this program receive a Capella University certificate and a professional certificate in enrollment management issued by Noel-Levitz. This course provides a comprehensive overview of enrollment management strategies, essential theories, and best practices. The course focuses on fundamental concepts, techniques, and practices used in successful enrollment management programs. Topics include analyzing higher education recruitment and choice processes from a marketing perspective, exploring current trends and applying tools related to financial assistance and scholarship to real-world recruitment situations, evaluating current recruitment practices in a recruitment marketing plan, and integrating leadership and management theories. ED7603 Essentials of Effective Retention in Higher Education (4 credits). This course provides learners with a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals and best practices of effective student retention in higher education. Learners analyze and interpret a significant body of research on student retention and apply this knowledge to the development and management of an institutionally based retention plan. ED Technology Applications to (4 credits). In this course, learners explore basic concepts in higher education enrollment management technology, focusing on effective technologies for managing enrollment in colleges and universities. Learners develop an understanding of current technologies used in recruitment and retention, and synthesize and apply emerging technologies to the field of enrollment management. ED Financial Assistance and (4 credits). In this course, learners explore financial assistance and its role in student recruitment and retention and act as practitioners, synthesizing knowledge acquired from other courses while using financial assistance principles and policies. The course focuses on applying financial assistance principles and regulations to effective enrollment management strategies. Topics include analyzing current and future trends in technology and the impact of databases and developing strategies for using technology effectively to manage enrollment. Entrance Requirements Master s degree or higher in your subject matter from a regionallyaccredited college or university Grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale Certificate program includes six online courses and one residential colloquium Practicum. ED Communications, Marketing Strategies and Issues (4 credits). This course provides learners with an understanding of the purpose and impact of targeted communications and marketing strategies for enrollment management. Learners analyze institutionally based communications and marketing documents and prepare a plan to improve marketing for higher education institutions. ED Strategic Planning (4 credits). This course introduces learners to essential concepts of strategic planning for higher education, including environmental scanning, data collection and analysis, quantifying annual and long-term goals, developing enrollment management strategies, and developing and implementing action plans. Learners create a strategic enrollment plan and explore ways to incorporate it into the institution s overall strategic plan. Course topics include building institutional support for a strategic enrollment management plan and mobilizing human and financial resources. This is the capstone course for the enrollment management specialization and includes the project required for the master s degree. Prerequisite(s): ED7601, ED7603, ED7605, ED7607, and ED
4 Residential Colloquium ( Practicum) Learners in the post master s certificate in enrollment management will participate in a five-day residential experience designed to provide applied skills in enrollment management as well as career planning skills. Learners will participate in workshops spanning the topics listed below along with recommended colloquia sessions. Your enrollment management track sessions will be led by Capella University PhD faculty members with experience in. Who attends the residential colloquium? You will attend colloquia with fellow learners in the post master s certificate in enrollment management and with PhD learners from Capella University's Schools of Education, Business and Technology, Human Services, and the Harold Abel School of Psychology. Attendance ranges from 400 to 1300 learners. What does a typical day at colloquium look like? 6 Post Master s Certificate in Academic Leadership Dr. Adell Newman-Lee Faculty Director, Higher Education and Corporate Programs Dr. Newman-Lee received her EdD from Northern Illinois University and a master s degree in sociology from Western Illinois University. Her doctoral cognate was in instructional technology, and during this time, she began designing and teaching online courses in higher education. She has a breadth of experience in adult education, graduate level education, and program and curriculum design. Dr. Newman-Lee has been a university professor, chair, and assistant dean. She has been teaching via alternative delivery methods (online, satellite and codec technology) since Dr. Newman-Lee served as a state director of adult education while teaching at Western Illinois University. She has numerous educational publications to her credit, and her research focus has been in adult education, criminology and sociology. Dr. Edward Gould Faculty Director, Higher Education and Corporate Programs Dr. Gould is the faculty director of higher education and corporate programs in the School of Education at Capella University. His extensive background includes corporate-level leadership of ecollege, executive director of ecollege s Center for Internet Technology in Education (CiTESM), vice chancellor of student services and special programs for California s 108 community colleges, the president and superintendent of three California community colleges, and vice president and dean of student services at three other community colleges in California and Nevada. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in counselor education and higher education leadership. Dr. Gould attended and received degrees from Hartnell College (AA, history), California State University, Hayward (BA history), San Diego State College (MS counseling), and the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a doctorate in education in counseling and personnel services. His passion is developing the next generation of leaders in higher education, and his research interests include higher education leadership, future trends and challenges in higher education, and parent education. Dr. Kathryn Campbell Faculty Chair, Leadership for Higher Education Dr. Campbell is the faculty chair for the enrollment management and leadership for higher education specializations. She has a rich history in community college counseling, teaching, and administration in California. She has served as a vice president of academic affairs and held positions as a dean of instruction as well as director of career programs and services. Dr. Campbell oversaw the rapid growth of an online program that served a district the size of the state of Vermont. She also initiated and developed a middle college high school of 240 students on the college campus. She was instrumental in establishing partnerships with California state universities to encourage and support students seeking teaching credentials. Dr. Campbell received an EdD in educational administration from the University of the Pacific. She has a master s degree in counseling from Dominican University of San Rafael and a bachelor s degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Barbara Keener Core Faculty, Leadership for Higher Education Barbara J. Keener holds a doctorate in education with a higher education specialization from the University of Florida. She served as a Florida Legislative intern and was awarded a WK Kellogg Fellowship in Community College Leadership during her graduate studies. She received a MA in speech and communication from the University of Wyoming and a MS in student personnel from Miami University (OH). Her BA is in political science from The Colorado College. She has served as dean in community colleges and universities as well as vice president and executive director of two higher education related associations. She was an educational services regional director for American College Testing. While serving as graduate faculty in the University of Florida's College of Education she initiated several online programs and developed new curriculum in community college leadership and enrollment management. Her publications and research are featured in textbooks, monographs, and journals. She has also been appointed to college and university accreditation review teams for the Southern Region. Dr. Keener has served as a Noel Levitz consultant on numerous projects, including statewide community college enrollment management planning in Kentucky and Louisiana. Her current Capella assignments include teaching and designing courses in higher education enrollment management, leadership, and community college specializations. 5
