What is a Registered Dietitian? Registered Dietitians or RD s are your nutrition experts. They have earned a bachelor s degree, completed an accredited, supervised practice program, passed a national registration exam and complete continuing professional education to maintain their registration. Some have additional certification indicating their specialty such as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). In North Dakota and Minnesota, and most other states, they must have a license to practice. Reasons to schedule a visit with a Registered Dietitian include:» Disease prevention and reduction of nutrition related risk factors» Education and tips for eating a healthy, well balanced diet» Assistance towards weight loss goals» Enhanced performance in the gym or specific sport» Assistance with gaining lean muscle mass» Recipe modification» Dietary supplement review

Cost: FREE 15 minute initial nutrition consult to determine needs. $15 for a 15 minute weigh-in and brief review of goals $30 for a 30 minute follow-up nutrition assessment $60 for a one-hour initial nutrition assessment *Clients who meet with RD s monthly or more will continue to receive monthly access to the online nutrition tracking system. After completion of an initial assessment, those who wish to continue to work with a dietitian online using the online tracking system without face to face appointments will be charged $20/month. Note: These appointments are cash based only and will not be billed through insurance. Sports Nutrition Athletes are encouraged to make a personal nutrition coaching appointment with one of our dietitians who are Board Certified Specialists in Sport Dietetics to develop a personalized plan to optimize their performance. The Board Certification as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) credential is the premier professional sports nutrition credential in the United States. Indirect Calorimetry This test is used to determine individual, unique calorie needs. Knowing the body s specific needs can help with managing weight without feeling deprived. Indirect calorimetry is a simple 10-minute breath test that measures resting metabolic rate. While a client sits comfortably in a chair, the air breathed out is analyzed to determine exactly how much oxygen the body consumed. The amount of oxygen consumed is directly related to the number of calories burned. This is how metabolic rate is measured. Indirect Calorimetry is beneficial for those who are:» Trying to lose weight» Trying to maintain their current weight» Athletes who want to lose weight without losing muscle mass» Athletes who want to gain or maintain weight Before the test, you should avoid things that may increase metabolism. These include:» Avoid eating four hours before the test» Avoid exercising before the test» Continue to take all medications as prescribed by your doctor Cost: $45 which includes testing, printout and explanation of the results.
