5 Program Descriptions There are many ways to earn points toward the Wellness portion of the Healthy Rewards incentive program. This calendar lists all programs and activities that can be attended by employees (as well as spouses and additional adults covered by an SFHS insurance plan) to earn Wellness points. For a complete listing of all the ways that Wellness points can be earned, please refer to your Healthy Rewards Goals Packet (section No. 7) that was given to you at your annual appointment with Wellness. (Body weight exercise that is Easy, Effective and Fast) 25 points Tuesdays May 3, 17, 31 June 7 & 21 July 12 & 26 August 2 & 16 Fitness Plus Athletic Republic (second floor of Fitness Plus) Pre-registration is required! Call x5970 This program will review specific guidelines and recommendations for quick and easy bodyweight resistance training that can be done at home, at work or on the go! A two-week exercise log will be provided at the end of class. Completion of the exercise log is required in order to receive all 25 Wellness points. National Bike to Work Day! 20 points Friday, May 6 Join us as we promote bike riding (or walking) for your health and for the environment! This citywide event will begin at the Osage Center at 6:15 am, bike riders (and walkers) will take off at 6:45 am to begin their trek to work. A Wellness staff member will be there between 6:15-6:45 am with a sign-in sheet. There will be breakfast, bike maintenance/checkups, a fun obstacle course, T-shirts, prizes, education and more! The Cape Girardeau Police Department will be on ATVs for a safe escort to your work and school. You can also register your bike with the police department. Live far away? Feel free to load up your bike and drive to the Osage Center and then bike to work from there. If you would prefer to bike from home directly to work that day, you may do so. Be sure to stop at the Service Desk on the first floor of the Health & Wellness Center (Entrance 8) to sign in to receive the Wellness points. Bone-density Screening 15 points May 24, noon-1 pm June 20, 2:30-3:30 pm July 12, noon-1 pm August 22, 2:30-3:30 pm Located in Health & Wellness Center, first floor by the Group Fitness Studios Call x5399 for an appointment (strongly recommended!) Find out if you are at risk for developing osteoporosis. Screenings are recommended for women older than age 50 or anyone with the following risk factors: Maternal history of hip fracture History of smoking Thin build (less than 127 pounds) On medications associated with bone loss Personal medical condition associated with bone loss History of fracture(s) after minimal trauma 4/16 5
6 Bottoms Up! What s in Your Drink? 5 points Tuesday, June 21 11:45 am-12:15 pm Drop by The Healthy Weigh (third floor, Health & Wellness Center) to try a sample of the selected beverage. DASH Diet 25 points May 11, 7:30-8:15 am (Saint Sebastian Conference Room) June 9, noon-12:45 pm (Saint Sebastian Conference Room) July 21, 4:15-5 pm (Saint Sebastian Conference Room) August 15, 6-6:45 pm (Saint Martha Conference Room) Preregistration is required! Call x5970 Check out the diet plan that has been developed specifically to prevent or lower high blood pressure. The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet class will cover the background information on the diet and give you specific guidelines to follow. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Blood Pressure portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if your blood pressure reading is outside the desirable range (the 30-day challenge handed out by the instructor must be completed), or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. Express Screening (for enrollment/re-enrollment in Healthy Rewards) 25 points* First Thursday of each month May 5, June 2, July 7, August 4 Saint Sebastian & Saint Martha Conference Rooms These screenings are ONLY for employees whose annual evaluation is due (as well as spouses/eligible adult dependents who are covered under an SFHS insurance plan) and includes having your blood work drawn (be sure to fast overnight), blood pressure checked, height/weight, etc. Your online Personal Wellness Profile (PWP) MUST be completed prior to participating in the screening. A separate appointment with Wellness is required to review results. Dependents of employees who are enrolled in the Saint Francis insurance plan are also eligible to participate in a screening during the time of the employee s annual evaluation. *If you need labs drawn for a B or C follow-up, you are welcome to attend an Express Screening for blood draw, however the 25 points will only be awarded when you attend your follow-up appointment with Wellness. Fit or Fat? 15 points May 25, 8-9 am June 22, 8-9 am July 27, 8-9 am August 31, 8-9 am (Takes about 10 minutes) Located in the Wellness Department Preregistration is strongly recommended. Call x5970 Do you want to learn what your percent body fat is? Would you like to know if it is in the ideal range for your age and gender? Then this is for you! We will be measuring percent body fat using skinfold calipers, the most widely used method of estimating percent body fat in the fitness field. 4/16 6

Healthy Bites Luncheon 20 points First Thursday of each month EXCEPT for July May 5, June 2, August 4 12:10-12:40 pm Saint Sebastian & Saint Martha Conference Rooms Various health professionals lead this monthly program discussing a variety of health-related topics. It is also open to the public. Call x5970 to find out the upcoming topics/speakers. My Daddy s Cheesecake grab & go -style lunches will be available for purchase OR you may come listen to the program at no cost. First and third Wednesday of each month, Saint Sebastian & Saint Martha Conference Rooms Blood pressure check 5 points (maximum of 25 points) Cholesterol and blood sugar test 15 points Results in minutes!! Blood pressure checks are free of charge; cholesterol and blood sugar tests require a small fee (and a 10- to 12-hour fast, water is OK). How to Start an Exercise Program 25 points Friday, May 27, 8-8:45 am Thursday, June 23, noon-12:45 pm Tuesday, July 12, 3-3:45 pm Wednesday, August 3, noon-12:45 pm Saint Sebastian Conference Room Preregistration is required! Call x5970 This program is ideal for those who are sedentary or are just beginning to exercise. SideStepping Diabetes 25 points May 11, 9-9:45 am June 9, 9:30-10:15 am July 21, 2:30-3:15 pm (TENTATIVE) Saint Sebastian Conference Room Preregistration is required! Call x5316 With early detection and lifestyle change, you can reduce your risk of developing diabetes. Come learn how! This class is offered once per month; it will be the same information each month. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Diabetes portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if you have glucose/hgba1c levels outside the recommended range (the 30-day challenge handed out by the instructor must be completed), or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. 4/16 7
8 TLC (Therapeutic Lifestyle Change) 25 points Wednesday, May 11, 8:15-9 am (Saint Sebastian Conference Room) Thursday, June 9, 11-11:45 am (Saint Martha Conference Room) Thursday, July 21, 3:30-4:15 pm (Saint Sebastian Conference Room) Monday, August 15, 5-5:45 pm (Saint Martha Conference Room) Preregistration is required! Call x5970 Does your heart need a little TLC? It may if you have high cholesterol or other risk factors for heart disease. TLC helps you take small steps that can result in big changes by lowering your risk for heart disease. This class is offered once per month; it is the same information each month. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Cholesterol portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if you have cholesterol levels outside the recommended ranges (the 30-day challenge handed out by the instructor must be completed), or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. Tobacco Cessation Classes May 12-June 16, Thursdays at 7 am (Saint Martha Conference Room) July 14-August 18, Thursdays at 7 am (Saint Martha Conference Room) Classes last approximately minutes and are FREE to SFHS employees and their spouses. Class fee for the general public is $75. Participants are welcome to bring a support person for no additional charge. Call to register. Class size is limited 5 points (maximum 60 points) Every Wednesday, Hallway just outside the Saint Regina Conference Room This is a weekly weigh-in for anyone trying to lose or maintain weight. You will be provided with a new health tip each week to help keep you on track. Weight-wise 25 points Thursday, June 9, 8:30-9:15 am (Saint Martha Conference Room) Monday, August 15, 4:15-5 pm (Saint Martha Conference Room) Preregistration is required! Call x5970 This is an introductory class covering the basics of nutrition and weight loss. Learn how to set small weight loss goals, monitor your progress, track your eating and more! This class may be taken for partial credit under the Body Weight portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if your initial BMI is greater than 25 (the two-week food log handed out by the instructor must be completed), or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. Wellness Walk 15 points Tuesday, July 19 Monday, August 15 11:30 am-1 pm (walk as long as you like) Fitness Plus track (meet by the Wellness Office) Take part of your lunch break to burn off some calories (and stress!). You do not need to be a Fitness Plus member to participate in these Wellness Walks. 4/16 8
