View and download charging history (including how much carbon saved from driving and charging EV) Report a problem with a charging station. Display messages such as maintenance or other reminders to fleet vehicle drivers on the charging station s touchscreen display when they plug into charging stations For fleet operators, an entire fleet of EVs can be managed on the OpConnect web portal using a single account for centralized control. Charging Station Specifications Our EV charging stations are designed to maximize the rate of return on installation costs by serving multiple vehicles with a single station. The stations were also designed to allow for a variety of charging scenarios, from a new EV owner who needs to access the station with a credit card, an OpConnect registered user who accesses the station with a network card, or a fleet driver who accesses the station with their fleet gas card. For college campus or workplace installations EV drivers to access the charging station with their existing student or company ID cards. Communications Network The OpConnect EVCS uses a wireless mesh communications system. Charging stations are grouped into meshes which can include up to 100 stations in a single mesh. In order to function properly, each station must be no more than 1000ft from another station in normal environments. In some environments, such as an underground parking structure where there would be a lot of concrete between stations, they will need to be closer. Each mesh will have one charging station that is referred to as a hub. The hub uses a cellular radio to communicate with OpConnect back office servers. So the total OpConnect network will be make up of many meshes and each mesh will have one hub that is talking to the back office server. For underground installations it might not be possible to establish a mesh and therefore each unit would have to be a hub. The hub in turn communicates with one or more nodes within the mesh using wireless radios. The following diagram is a simple illustration of this showing one mesh with a single hub and two nodes. It also shows that customers can use their smart phones to access our web site and both smart and regular mobile phones can be used to receive text alerts when charging is complete, etc. Customers can also log into our web site to manage their accounts. The setup and maintenance of the communications network is done by OpConnect. OpConnect EVCS Network Specifications 4
Charging Station User Interface It is often said that a picture says a thousand words and at OpConnect we believe it. Our charging stations feature full color touchscreen displays to allow for the EV driver to easily interface with the stations and also receive pictorial diagrams if they are having trouble using the stations. These displays, coupled with our wireless communications network make our charging stations versatile, powerful outdoor computers, able to adapt to a variety of needs for individual and fleet EV owners. Fleet customers especially will be able to take advantage of the display and communications capabilities that our charging stations offer. Messages can be targeted at individual or a group of a fleet s EV drivers and these messages will display on the EV screen when the correct driver (or drivers) swipe their card at the charging station to identify themselves to the system. By allowing fleet operators to use existing ID cards to access our charging stations and not requiring a new card or fob, OpConnect s open access system saves fleet operators time and money. Fleet operators can install charging stations that can be accessed by their drivers and also can generate revenue from public access of the stations using credit cards or OpConnect membership cards.
