Social program The Monday evening event in the Inner harbor is a recommended free time activity to the expense of the participants. We have made a reservation at Diebels in order to provide a come together for everybody interested. On Tuesday, we have a guided tour to the Landschaftspark Nord with a subsequent dinner at the Hauptschalthaus donated by the Workshop Organizers. Monday: Inner harbor (Innenhafen) The Innenhafen (Inner Harbour) in Duisburg, encompassing an area of 89 ha., was for over a hundred years, during the high point of the Industrial Revolution, the central harbour and trading point of the town. Since the mid-60s, the importance of the harbour declined and it lay in a disused condition for 20 years, before plans for renovation were drawn up. This former industrial area has been fundamentally transformed, a process which started as a part of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park (IBA) which ran from 1989 until 1999. The basis for this model of development in the Ruhr district was delivered in 1994 by the British architect Norman Foster. Since then, the Inner Harbor has transformed itself into a district combining employment, housing, culture and waterbased leisure activities. Travel: Tram Line 901, Duisburg Zoo/Uni to Rathaus Duisburg, on foot via the Inner Harbor to the pub brewery Diebels im Hafen. Diebels im Hafen Diebels im Hafen: The pub brewery Diebels im Hafen located in the Werhahn-building offers more than 230 m² guest area and seats for more than 200 people outside mainly on a pontoon. The pub offers meals favourable enjoyed along with Alt Bier, a special kind of beer from the lower Rhine area in Germany.

Tuesday: Landschaftspark Nord Landschaftspark is a public park located in Duisburg Nord, Germany. It was designed in 1991, with the intention that it work to heal and understand the industrial past, rather than trying to reject it. The park closely associates itself with the past use of the site: a coal and steel production plant (abandoned in 1985, leaving the area significantly polluted) and the agricultural land it had been prior to the mid-19th century. The park is divided into different areas, whose borders were carefully developed by looking at existing conditions (such as how the site had been divided by existing roads and railways, what types of plants had begun to grow in each area, etc.). This piecemeal pattern was then woven together by a series of walkways and waterways, which were placed according to the old railway and sewer systems. While each piece retains its character, it also creates a dialogue with the site surrounding it. Within the main complex, the concrete bunkers create a space for a series of intimate gardens, old gas tanks have become pools for scuba divers, concrete walls are used by rock climbers, and one of the most central places of the factory, the middle of the former steel mill, has been made into piazza. Each of these spaces uses elements to allow for a specific reading of time. 17:30 Departure Tram Duisburg Zoo/Uni Line 701 to Duisburg Main station, change to tram line 903 to the stop Landschaftspark-Nord, from there onto Emscherstrasse (approx. 7 minutes walk)
