1 30th GMS Symposium on Vascular Surgery Berlin 5 7 November 2015 Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur Friedrichstraße Berlin-Mitte Scientific direction: PD Dr. med. R. I. Rückert Dr. med. P. Klein-Weigel 1

2 Dear colleagues, Dear friends of vascular medicine, The 30th Symposium on Vascular Surgery (GMS) will be taking place in November 2015 in Berlin. It is our very special pleasure to invite you to this extraordinary anniversary of one of the most traditional vascular medicine conference events in Germany held in our wonderful capital city! Prof. Wolfgang Hepp naturally deserves the most credit, since he set up the GMS and managed it for 25 whole years. It is a great honour, commitment and pleasure at the same for us to continue this symposium. Over the last 30 years, we have seen a rapid development in vascular medicine. The examples that spring to mind include the 'endovascular revolution' and the closely related 'quantum leaps' made in imaging diagnostics. Some visions have long since become the reality of clinical everyday life, while others still have to find their way to this stage or might even be proved wrong. Which of today's established diagnosis and treatment methods will still remain in the next 30 years? What courses will vascular medicine embark on, and what trends are emerging? In two meetings to open and conclude the symposium, we will hear stimulating and critical contributions on precisely these topics. It was and is a special characteristic of GMS to maintain good traditions. For us, this mainly includes advanced training, interprofessionality, interdisciplinarity, and right at the top of the agenda the inclusion of young vascular physicians, since it is these individuals who will shape the future. Our "sources of hope for the next 30 years" will have their say on the Friday evening in the Forum for Young Vascular Physicians. Stimulated by a competition for prizes for the best three lectures, you can expect an innovative meeting with a broad range of themes and challenging content. At the beginning of our scientific programme, on the Friday morning we will once again scrutinise vascular medical innovations which have the potential to change everyday clinical life in our topic News in Vascular Medicine. Two sessions will be devoted in the broad sense to the prevention of devastating events in vascular medicine, namely stroke and aortic rupture. Since it has proven to be exciting and clinically relevant, as well as controversial and lively, we will continue the discussion on Dogmas in Vascular Medicine on the Saturday morning. The 30th GMS 2015 will also once again offer many certified courses and workshops on the Thursday with some even having new compositions and content. We have therefore included an interventional training course for the first time ever. The demand for the courses will certainly be very high again not least due to participants' intense and individual care so we advise booking in advance! Berlin is always worth a visit particularly when a visit to this pulsating multicultural metropolis can be combined with a visit to GMS. In the special atmosphere of the symposium, things will be "summed up in a nutshell" again this year by renowned national and international speakers and the lively contributions from the auditorium. Nothing will replace the personal exchange of opinions, even in the age of the Internet! We are looking forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary of the traditional GMS with you. With this in mind, we would like to extend you a warm welcome to our capital again from 5 to 7 November 2015! Ralph I. Rückert Peter Klein-Weigel 2
