01 Welcome UK Opportunities at Milan Expo 2015 02 Showcase your brand at the UK Pavilion at Milan Expo 2015 UK-based organisations are invited to share this remarkable platform and contribute to the UK presence at Milan Expo 2015. We have created this guide to help you understand the UK Pavilion and the opportunities it presents for holding inspiring and memorable events here. We have included a summary of the spaces, including technical information and floor plans. It gives you all the contacts and information you need to plan and book events at the UK Pavilion. The UK at Milan Expo 2015 The UK is participating at the World Expo 2015 in Milan from 1 May to 31 October. Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life is the core theme. 145 nations are participating including the UK s major political and trading partners. Milan Expo 2015 offers a global platform to promote UK international agendas and showcase British innovation, creativity and global leadership in the following core sectors and areas: Agricultural Technology (Agri-Tech), Creative Industries, Food and Drink, Healthcare, International Development (Aidfunded Business, Sustainability), Life Sciences and Technology. The UK s participation theme for Milan Expo 2015 is Grown in Britain & Northern Ireland, led by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) with support from seven HM Government departments. The stand-out UK Pavilion is inspired by the role of the bee in the global ecosystem and offers visitors a unique experiential journey. It also forms the centrepiece for a six-month global programme of UK business (Global Business Programme) and cultural events, linked to the challenge of feeding the planet. Milan Expo is the perfect springboard for us to showcase UK global leadership in helping find solutions to feed the planet. 03 The UK Pavilion Visitor Experience 04 The UK Pavilion Visitor Experience THE HIVE TERRACE The UK has created a stand-out Pavilion designed by Nottingham based artist Wolfgang Buttress and Manchester based architectural practice BDP. It is constructed and manufactured by York based company Stage One. All are award winning British talent. Of the 100 crop species that provide 90 per cent of the world s food, over 70 are pollinated by bees alone. The UK Pavilion showcases the crucial role of pollination in the global ecosystem, our food supply and it highlights the global need to protect pollinators. The visitor follows the dance of a bee, travelling through a series of landscapes. The experience starts with a journey through an orchard, followed by a wildflower meadow and on to a giant aluminium beehive. Within the hive the visitor experience is further compounded by audio and visual effects, responding to movements within a real UK beehive. The richness of the British food and drink sector will also be showcased from the UK Pavilion restaurant and bar, operated by Royal Warrant holder and world renowned caterer Mosimann s. 05 Event Spaces and Facilities 06 Seminar Suite The 65m 2 Seminar Suite is the central events space at the Pavilion. It is fully air conditioned and can hold up to 56 people (theatre-style format). Alternatively, this space can be laid out with four tables with six seats at each; or a boardroomstyle with 18 seats. Beside the Seminar Suite is a 31m 2 space which is being used as a VIP lounge and UK Business Club. SPACE BOOKING INCLUDES: Up to 6 hours use of the Seminar Suite (10:00 16:00 / 17:00 23:00) Dedicated AV Technician Audio Visual Equipment, including: 3 x 84 wall recessed large format LCD display panels, 1 x central and 2 x displays on the side walls Laptop PA System 1 x wireless gooseneck microphone 1 x wireless hand-held microphone 1 x wireless lapel microphone Additional Audio Visual equipment is available on request. 09 Event Spaces and Facilities 10 Terrace The UK Pavilion has a welcoming bar and restaurant situated on the Terrace overlooking the Hive. This area, which has flexible rain cover, has total capacity for 180 delegates. The Terrace area is open to the public between 10:00 23:00, except during UK Pavilion Sponsor and Stakeholder events. It may be possible to close the Terrace to the public after 19:00, for major events, or to cordon off a section for more informal gatherings. Please contact the events team for further details. 11 Event Spaces and Facilities 12 Underhive Plaza Situated beneath 1,000 LED lights of the Hive, the Underhive Plaza offers an outstanding showcase opportunity for UK-based organisations and benefits from a high level of public footfall. 13 Event Support 14 Event Management Catering Q&A Bray Leino is the official event management provider, offering a dedicated resource to support all events hosted on the UK Pavilion at Milan Expo 2015. This team will coordinate all event requirements with the Milan Expo 2015 organisers and UK Pavilion contracted suppliers. Globally renowned food business, Mosimann s, is the official caterer for the UK Pavilion at Milan Expo. Mosimann s will ensure visitors to the UK Pavilion get a taste of the best of the UK s national produce and enjoy a distinctly British menu, which will add to a stand out experience for visitors to the UK Pavilion. Mosimann s, who will be delighted to support third-party events, have exclusive access to the kitchen at the Pavilion. Sample priced menu options covering canapés, small meals, buffets etc. are available on request from the Bray Leino events team. Q. Are any Milan Expo 2015 tickets included in the hire charge? A. No tickets are included in the UK Pavilion event space hire charge and must be organised independently by the host and all delegates. Q. How do I purchase a Milan Expo 2015 ticket? A. Anyone entering the Expo site is required to purchase a ticket. For further information and to purchase your Milan Expo 2015 ticket, please visit www.expo2015.org/en/tickets Next Steps Q. What are the Milan Expo opening times? A. The Milan Expo is open every day 10:00 23:00, from May 1 to October 31 2015. Q. Is it possible to showcase and distribute food / beverage products on the UK Pavilion? A. UK organisations wishing to showcase or distribute their products as part of their organised event activity should be aware that: 1. It is not permissible to sell items on the UK Pavilion, but free samples can be distributed. 2. Due to Health and Safety restrictions live cooking demonstrations are not permitted on the UK Pavilion. However, there is space within the Expo site that can be booked for cooking demonstrations. 3. Official UK Pavilion catering partner Mosimann s has exclusive access to the kitchen facilities at the Pavilion, and therefore it is recommended that any food is prepared offsite. It may be possible to use the kitchen facilities to prepare under the supervision of Mosimann s. It is anticipated that the UK Pavilion will be a popular venue for UK Government and businesses to join the national showcase.
