2 A UNIQUE ART VENUE IN THE HEART OF LONDON The Photographers Gallery, a registered charity, is the largest public gallery in London exclusively dedicated to championing photography in all its forms from established artists and historical archives to the latest emerging talent and digital media. Since our inception in 1971 as the first independent gallery in Britain devoted to the medium, The Photographers Gallery has been instrumental in establishing photography s important role in culture and society. With over half a million visitors a year, we are one of Europe s most visited photography galleries, with a highly acclaimed exhibition programme in a state of the art building. Having recently completed a major redevelopment programme, we reopened our building to the public in May 2012 with three exhibition galleries, a floor dedicated to education and learning, enlarged Bookshop, Print Sales and Café. We are delighted to have been able to host the event during the Oil exhibition and have had great feedback; the artwork was most interesting and thoughtprovoking.
