COUNTY OF SONOMA (CA) INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF: Licensed Vocational Nurse II An Equal Opportunity Employer SALARY $22.60 - $27.48 Hourly $1,814.19 - $2,205.93 Biweekly $3,930.74 - $4,779.50 Monthly $47,168.91 - $57,354.06 Annually OPENING DATE: 04/29/15 CLOSING DATE: 05/13/15 THE POSITION This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) vacancy within the Behavioral Health Division of the Department of Health Services (DHS). This vacancy will be filled at either the LVN I or II level. NOTE: If you are interested in applying at the I level, you will need to apply to the separate, concurrent recruitment being conducted for that classification. This position will work in the Behavioral Health Division s Acute/Forensic Services and be assigned to the County s Crisis Stabilization (CSU)/Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) Unit. The LVN functions as a member of the CSU/PES team under the direction of the CSU/PES manager. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a behavioral health setting, as well as other health-related practice settings. In addition, the ideal candidate must have good organizational skills and be able to manage a fast paced work environment. Duties include distributing and monitoring emergency psychiatric medications under the direction of a physician; monitoring patients for side effects and responses to psychiatric medications, including vital signs and behaviors, as directed by a psychiatrist; documentation in the patient's behavioral health medical record; providing client care, including helping with activities of daily living and making beds; participation in various related committees and meetings, as directed by the CSU/PES manager; and ordering and maintaining the inventory of psychiatric medications. The employment list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, parttime, and extra-help (temporary) vacancies as they occur during the active status of the list. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited school for vocational nursing. Experience: Experience which would provide the opportunity to acquire the listed knowledge and abilities. Normally, at least six months of recent full-time experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in an acute care unit or mental health inpatient or outpatient clinic setting
would provide such opportunity. License: Possession of a valid California license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. A valid California driver's license may be required for certain departments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of: vocational nursing theory and practice, hospital rules, regulations and procedures; medical vocabulary commonly used in conveying instructions and orders between doctors, nurses, and para-professional nursing employees. Working knowledge of: medical supplies and equipment, their care and use. Knowledge of: patient rights and confidentiality requirements of patient information and established communications codes; basic communicable disease; infection control practices and procedures; basic emergency care including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); the use, administration and effects of narcotics and medicines. Some knowledge of: behavioral patterns of suspected alcoholic, narcotic and emotionally disturbed individuals. Ability to: perform physical assessments; take health histories; assess and review lab results; provide primary nursing care; detect suicidal behavior; follow oral and written directions of nursing technical and professional nature; work as part of a team; deal with patients sympathetically and tactfully; maintain and interpret medical records and reports; learn procedures to start, superimpose and monitor non-medicated intravenous fluids in order to acquire Certification; stand and walk for long periods and work under mental and physical strain; establish and maintain effective working relationships with people on the job cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain effective employee, interdepartmental and public relations; maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patients information and abide by established communications codes.
