Flexible and safe solutions, for decades. Cables for alarmand safety systems

2 We offer the widest range of cables on the market for every kind of installation.

It s all about reliability. It is always important to choose high quality cables, especially when it comes to alarms and safety systems. Even small and seemingly insignificant details can make a big difference in terms of ease of handling, functionality and service life. We have the cables you are looking for We offer the widest range of cables on the market for every kind of installation. The cables we supply carry signals and power supplies. For extra peace of mind concerning fire protection, our cables are available in versions meeting specified fire safety requirements in installations. Halogen free for greater safety We have decided only to include halogen free cables in this brochure. There is a clear trend in that direction, and there is no longer any reason for not choosing halogen free cables. Halogen free cables offer many advantages in particular, they make it easier to escape the building in the event of fire, generating substantial savings in the long run. 100 years of experience thrown in At Nexans we research, develop and manufacture cables for the whole world. For different environments and climates. And we ve been doing it for more than a hundred years. So when you choose our cables, they come with a whole lot more our dedication and all the experience and expertise we ve built up over the decades. 3

Product segments Video surveillance (CCTV) Locally installed CCTV (closed circuit TV) systems are increasingly being used as a crime prevention tool. In addition to standardized coaxial cable, Nexans also supplies cables with separate power supply and a data cable for IP based solutions outdoor. Fire alarms Detector networks often occupy large volumes so cables must be easy to install. Nexans cables are easy to strip and are optimised to simplify installation in pipes. Choose from simple, non twisted pair cables for small conventional systems and twisted pair cables for larger addressable systems. The cables used in fire alarm detector networks should normally have a red sheath. If the cables are required to keep working during a fire, you should use Nexans Alsecure (see page 12 Performance during a fire ). 4

Performance during a fire There is a separate fire class for cables that are required to maintain sircuit integrity during a fire. These cables all have unique insulation material that is not damaged like normal cables. This category can include power supply cables as well as signal cables. They should also be flame retardant low fire hazard cables in other words they must not give off any toxic or corrosive gases, and only small amounts of smoke, if there is a fire. Access protection Burglar alarms usually have a system of control units and sensors. Indoor and outdoor entry systems contain card readers, central units and computers. The cables used for intruder protection and entry control are signal cables with varying flexibility, shielding and cores. Alternatively, combination cables can be used with separate cores carrying the power supply. Nexans wide range makes it easy to choose the right cables for the various components. The Nexans cables for these applications are called Alsecure. The unique insulation (INFIT ) makes the cables easy to install while ensuring they still work during a fire. 5

Video surveillance (CCTV) CCTV (Closed Circuit TeleVision) is a locally installed video surveillance system. A CCTV system consists of cameras, monitors, transmission elements (cables), control systems and storage systems. Our range of halogen free cables for CCTV includes 75 ohm coaxial cable. We also offer a combined coax and power supply cable to optimise functionality as well as cable laying. RG 59 LSZH Coaxial cable for video surveillance. The impedance of the cable: 75 ohm. S/FTP Category 6A LSZH + PE LANmark Industry outlet IP67 The LANmark Industry outlet enables the installation of data outlets in exposed areas as well as outdoor solutions. The IP67 level of protection is maintained both when the outlet is nused and when the appropriate IP67 patchcords are connected. Includes 2 screened category 6 or category 6A connectors. 8 Find out more about fire safety and fire classes.

You often won t know whether you chose the right cable until after a fire. People always talk about fire protection but it is important to know what this actually means in practical terms, and to be certain which flame spread rating you need to use. For cables, you also need to distinguish between flame spread, fire hazard properties and fire resistance. Cables that prevent flame spread Cables running through building levels and walls are a great way for fires to spread. So the most important requirement when establishing fire protection is to use cables with properties that prevent the spread of fire. This is why there are general flame spread classes, and these must always be defined. Our cables have clearly marked flame spread classes that are informative and easy to understand. Halogen free saving lives and money Smoke and gases from burning cables often cause the biggest problems for people and equipment. These problems can be reduced if halogen free cables are used. The smoke from halogen free cables during a fire is much thinner and does not corrode metals. This makes it easier to clear smoke from rooms, potentially saving lives. That is why our cables for alarms and safety systems are halogen free. Still working during a fire The most critical cables must also be fire resistant. This means they must be guaranteed to work even during a fire. This is made possible by special insulation material, which is merely altered rather than destroyed by fire. The cable keeps its shape, the conductors are kept separate and the cable continues to work. These cables are needed for the fire alarm system itself, but also for the safety lighting guiding people out of the building, for the smoke extraction fans and for the lifts. Our range includes fire resistant cables for power supply and for communication. 9

Fire alarms Nexans has a full range of cables for fire alarm systems The right cable for the right use Cables for fire alarms are available with either red or grey sheaths depending on the regulations, aesthetic requirements, etc. In larger addressable systems, twisted pair cable should be used, KLM-LSZH 2x1.0 mm. If shielded cable is required, Nexans supplies the KLMA LSZH. If the cables are required to keep working during a fire, fire resistant Alsecure cables are used. Installation The cables for fire alarms are intended for permanent indoor installation. ELQRB Signal cable for fire alarms. ELQRB construction is as specified in SS 424 16 09. Fire resistant cables maintain circuit integrity even when affected by heat or flames. 11

Performance during a fire Fire resistant cables are recommended for use in installations that must maintain circuit integrity during a fire. Using these cables in important alarm, control, signal and power supply systems means you can guarantee they will not be taken down, even if the fire reaches the cables themselves. No gases, little smoke As well as continuing to work during and after a fire, Nexans fire resistant cables are halogen free so they do not release any toxic or corrosive gases, and only small amounts of smoke, if there is a fire. Studies show that this can save lives and money. Installation Examples of systems that must maintain circuit integrity during a fire include signal and safety systems guiding people out of the building. Other examples are smoke extraction fans and lifts. Fire alarm cables, too, if they pass through areas that are not monitored by detectors, are required to maintain circuit integrity during a fire.
