Job Description Radiography Services Manager Professionally accountable to: Head of Nursing and Clinical Services Key working relationships: Key reporting relationships: All Radiographers, Consultant Radiologists, Nursing, Medical and Allied Health personnel, colleague heads of departments across all categories of staff. Chief Executive, Head of Nursing and Clinical Services and Clinical Director Radiology Role Purpose: Your primary function will be in the delivery of a professional and comprehensive radiography service, strategic planning and overall daily running of the radiology service. The main responsibility is to manage, plan, organise and co-ordinate all aspects of the services and the department. You will work closely with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Services. To communicate effectively with staff at various levels of seniority and from many disciplines with Radiology and throughout the hospital. To manage the department in a rapidly changing environment with a willingness to undertake additional duties as may be assigned from time to time are essential. Qualifications: A recognised professional qualification in Radiography and current Registration with the IIR. A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior Radiography Role with appropriate supervisory responsibilities. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibilities Provide clinical leadership, which results in the delivery of an efficient, quality assured and patient centred Radiology Services. Perform Radiography duties as may be necessary for an efficient service. Delegating professional duties to staff recognizing the professional competency of individuals. Making recommendations relative to improving patient care and staff requirement to your line manager. Development of operational policies protocols and guidelines to maximise resources and ensure systematic audit of such usage. To ensure that the highest levels of patient care and services are delivered in the department. To act as line manager for all radiographers and clinical specialists in the department. In this role you can and will be expected to, delegate specific duties and responsibilities to the members of your team commensurate with their experience and abilities. Ensure a good working relationship with the Consultant staff of the hospital and other clinical colleagues. To ensure that the necessary processes and procedures are in place to meet the applicable regulatory requirements for the department. To work closely with the Director of Radiology in the development of the services. Report directly to the Head of Nursing and Clinical Services as your line manager. To ensure that the availability of all modalities in the department meet the demands of the referring physicians.
Arrange the necessary training and education for your staff as may be required from time to time. Take due regard of appropriate budgetary and financial control within the department including an appropriate resourcing plan and equipment plan. You will also be required to produce management reports under the guidance of the Head of Nursing and Clinical Services. Lead and manage the administrative support provided to ensure their effective deployment and to ensure patient scheduling, records and data management, customer care etc is delivered effectively and results in agreed KPIs being achieved. Planning Manage the equipment selection, purchase, replacement and upgrading in a proactive and cost efficient manner. Manage the preparation of plans for the radiology service and monitor and report on their implementation. Design, manage and co-operate with any evaluation of the system. Develop operational policies, protocols, and guidelines to maximise utilisation or resources. Human Resources Management Effectively manage Radiographers, Technicians, administrative and support staff assigned to the department. Manage the recruitment, selection and appointment of staff. Ensure the optimum and effective use of staff through rostering, skill mix, workload, and training. Initiate the implementation of a staff development and individual performance review and foster a high level of morale by motivation and communication. Manager and comply with policies and procedures at HMC in relation to Health and Safety, Infection Control, Disposal of Waste, Sharps and Infected lined, Accident and Incident and Near Miss Reporting, Complaints Procedure, Fire Policy and Evacuation. At all times comply with HMC Mission Statement and Policies in dealing with patients and other clinic staff members. Adhere to Human Resources policies as set out in the HMC employee manual.
Be familiar and comply with Radiology Department guidelines, local Rules and Department Protocals. Manage change implementation to ensure full commitment of all stakeholders. Communication Self directed with excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Excellent computer literacy Quality and Safety Ensure compliance with infection control, quality, and safety policies. Promote the delivery of a high standard of care to all patients. Encourage evidencebased practice and assist in the dissemination and implementation of research findings. Provide advice on matters relating to the care of patients in the department. Ensure that patient confidentiality is respected and the dignity of patients is assured and maintained having regard to the HMC Mission Statement, and the ethical code of the hospital. Collaborate in the implementation of the accreditation programme and ensuring standards of care are met and regularly evaluated. Liaise and work with multidisciplinary teams on the development of policies, standards, audits and research. Encourage collaboration with the team with regard to developing evidence based practice and seeking advice when reviewing and formulating new practice. Initiate regular audit of Clinical practices and procedures through discussion with staff and other specialist and medical staff. Ensure that the Infection Control and Risk Assessment protocols, guidelines and standards are updated, implemented and evaluated in a structured format. Provide clinical nursing leadership in proactively addressing ethical and quality of service issues with multidisciplinary team members and hospital management. Investigate and take remedial action on incidents or near misses involving patients and staff according to hospital policies, protocols and guidelines. Report all incidents, accidents and emergencies and complete relevant documentation as appropriate.
Education Provide professional and personal development opportunities for radiology staff. Work closely with the Education Officer, head of Nursing and Clinical Services and other Unit Managers, leading and supporting the education programme. In association with other registered staff, develop an orientation programme for new staff. Implement and participate in education programmes for all staff and instruct staff in new procedures. Liaise with the Education Officer in identifying staff training needs and assist in the development of career pathways for all staff in the department. Maintain accurate records of all study leave and education resources used. Demonstrate outcomes of education and development programmes. To work with the Health of Nursing and Clinical Services on development and implementation of an enhanced staff competence assessment relevant to the department. Conduct staff evaluations and discuss staff performance annually with the individuals involved and with teaching and supervisory staff. Ensure these evaluations are then placed on the HR file and that any education action plans are implemented in a timely manner. Keep abreast of research and developments and facilitate and contribute to research. Ensure correct and economical use of stock and materials, to be conscious of budget. Assist in identification of areas where use of resources could be improved. Ensure that all reasonable precautions and safe guards are in place and to provide a safe place of work for all persons required to be in the department in accordance with current Health & Safety at work legislation. Facilitate study days and leave equitably, in accordance with the HMC Study Leave Policy and within budgeted allowances. Evaluation/Research/Audit Demonstrate leadership in the area of research and advise as required on research methodology
