ERASMUS STAFF TRAINING WEEK INTENSIVE PROGRAMS (IPs) November 25 29, 2013 Workshop Excursion Project Day Department Visits study abroad exchange your perspective
WELCOME Dear colleagues and partners, dear guests, We are very happy that you have decided to join us in Ulm for our project week on Intensive Programs and wish you a warm welcome. Intensive Programs (IPs) have been part of the ERASMUS program for many years, and some of you already have experience in organizing such a program, while others have come to find out more about the underlying concepts in order to start their own project. During the workshop on Tuesday morning, two IPs will be presented which have been runn successfully in the past years: The Research Summer School Angers and the IP Water & Soil. However, the ERASMUS program as we have come to know it will expire at the end of the academic year 2013/14. After that, the new European education program ERASMUS+ will continue to offer funding for intensive programs under action II Strategic Partnerships, but the goals and the general framework will change. We have received the latest information about the new program from our national ERASMUS agency (German Academic Exchange Service DAAD) and will give you the prospects for the future. The central activity of our meeting in Ulm will therefore be the workshop on Intensive Programs on Tuesday. In addition, we offer an excursion to possible seminar homes in the region and further meetings by individual arrangement in order to discuss future projects and co-operations. We look forward to an informative week of explorations and networking with you. Yours cordially, Professor Dr. Ulrich Stadtmüller Vice-President for Teaching and International Affairs Dr. Sabine Habermalz ERASMUS Institutional Coordinator Dr. Reinhold Lücker Director International Office Dr. Philipp von Wrangell ERASMUS Departmental Coordinator Biology Coordinator of IP Water & Soil 3

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Ulm University campus is serviced by several bus lines. The bus stop Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) is right in front of the InterCity Hotel. Lines # 3, 5 and 6 leave from here every few minutes. Line # 3 is the fastest and most direct connection. It stops on campus at Universität Süd, Botanischer Garten and Technische Versorgungsbetriebe. The ride takes approx. 12 14 min. from Hauptbahnhof Line # 6 runs only until Universität Süd. The ride takes approx. 15 min. Line # 5 circles the campus in the opposite direction to line # 3. It also stops at Technische Versorgungsbetriebe, Botanischer Garten and Universität Süd. The ride takes approx. 20-25 min. On Monday and Tuesday, meetings will be held at the International Office building Pavillon I. Bus stops Botanischer Garten and Technische Versorgungsbetriebe are the nearest ones. Tickets (single fare) cost 2.00. Guests of the InterCity Hotel receive day passes for the whole duration of their stay free of charge. We do not recommend to come to campus by car, since parking is limited and rather expensive for external visitors. 11
