Housing: Homestay and Limited On-Campus Residences for grades 8-12. (International students in grade 7 may enroll at Sierra Canyon if a parent or relative plans to reside with them in the local area.) School Year: End of August to Early June The school day runs from 8 am to 3 pm Monday through Thursday and from 8 am to 2:15 pm on Fridays. Students have the opportunity to participate in numerous clubs and sports on campus as well as take advantage of the many arts, cultural, entertainment, and athletic offerings (hiking, skiing, surfing, and golf) in the Greater Los Angeles and nearby areas. Vacations: Winter Break Two weeks at the end of December Spring Break Two weeks at the end of March Sierra Canyon School is located in the Northwest corner of Los Angeles and is in close proximity to Beverly Hills, Universal Studios, Hollywood, and the famous Malibu and Venice beaches. International students appreciate the School s beautiful campus and surroundings, the safe neighborhoods where the campus is situated, and easy access to Los Angeles International Airport. A well-established homestay program is managed by a highly experienced International Student Coordinator. Homestay families are interviewed extensively prior to selection and pairing up with international students. Sierra Canyon School is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF), is a member of the Cum Laude Society, and has a National Honor Society chapter. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Seventh grade students are eligible for admission if they plan to live in the local area with a parent or relative. Eighth through 12th grade students may participate in Sierra Canyon s homestay program or live in limited on-campus housing. Applications for admission may be completed and submitted online at: www.sierracanyonschool.org. The following items are required as part of the application to Sierra Canyon: Completed Online Sierra Canyon School Application Homestay Application for International Students (available as a download from the website for students applying for grades 8-12) Homestay Survey (available as a download from the website for students applying for grades 8-12) Official Transcript(s) Grades from the past two years and the current school year are required and must be sent directly from the applicant s school to Sierra Canyon School. Three Official Letters of Recommendation Students must submit the following recommendations: 1 math teacher, 1 English teacher, and 1 teacher of student s choice These recommendations must be mailed, faxed, or emailed directly from the applicant s school to Sierra Canyon School. Official Standardized Testing Students must submit one of the following tests if English is the applicant s second language: TOEFL scores of 72+ are preferred Junior TOEFL scores of 60+ are preferred SLEP scores of 58+ are preferred All documents must be translated into English. After receipt of a completed application, students will be scheduled for an interview conducted via Skype. Sierra Canyon School issues I-20 visas to students who are admitted after receipt of their enrollment deposit. BRAZILIAN & CHINESE STUDENTS Sierra Canyon School has partnered with Three W International to enroll students from China and Brazil in grades 7-12.
