2 15 Degrees Smarter in the Bay The list of degree programmes offered through Bay of Plenty Polytechnic keeps on growing! Our focus on creating partnerships and pathways with other tertiary institutions, as well as industry, is designed to help you reach your potential whatever your needs and goals may be. There are now 15 degrees programmes right here in Tauranga including business analysis, business management, computer science, creative industries*, early childhood and primary teaching, engineering, midwifery, nursing, science, social sciences, social work, sport & recreation and tourism. * Pending approval In the Bay for the Bay Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and the University of Waikato have been working together for more than a decade to increase tertiary education opportunities in the Western Bay of Plenty. Now, the two institutions are working even more closely together to offer a comprehensive suite of jointly developed diploma and degree programmes. Through this partnership you can enter bridging, certificate, diploma and degree programmes. This 'staircase' approach provides pathways to life-long learning opportunities for school leavers, mature students new to study, or people well on the way towards reaching their career goals. In 2010 Whakatane-based Te Whare Wänanga o Awanuiärangi joined the partnership. Pathway programmes are currently being developed and will be available in the near future. All new partnership courses are developed with industry and community input to ensure you are well equipped to take advantage of regional employment opportunities. 14 Engineering & Welding Hands-on and practical? There s a global shortage of skilled people in the engineering industries. Civil engineers design, plan, organise and oversee the building of structures such as dams, bridges, gas and water supply systems, sewerage systems and roads. Civil engineering technicians plan and draw the technical details for building and repairing roads, bridges, buildings and other structures. Mechanical and fabrication engineering skills are needed to design, make and maintain tools, machinery and equipment for use across many industries. As a welder you can work in light fabrication, heavy fabrication and transport engineering. Mechanical engineers work in general engineering, machining and maintenance areas of the industry. Housed within the Polytechnic s technology facilities is the Titanium Industry Development Association s (TiDA) advanced powder metallurgy research centre. The collaborative nature of this venture sees TiDA and the Polytechnic working closely to develop a titanium specialisation within the Diploma in Engineering programme. On our website boppoly.ac.nz you ll find specific course details and you can download brochures too. 2. Apply now Already know what you want to study and meet the entry criteria? You re ready to apply. Simply complete the application form available from the Information Centre (ph 0800 BOPPOLY (0800 267 7659) or email info@boppoly. ac.nz) and follow the instructions provided. If you re enrolling in a full-time course you can apply online at boppoly.ac.nz/go/apply-now/form. You may be invited to an information meeting with the programme tutors to view the facilities and discuss the programme in more detail. 3. Enrol & pay your fees Once you're accepted you ll receive a letter offering you a place on the course along with an enrolment pack and further instructions. Return the required documentation and make the required fee arrangement/payment to confirm your enrolment. If you're paying your fees by Student Loan you'll need to apply for it through StudyLink before we enrol you. Applying for student loans through StudyLink can take time, so make sure you start your application as early as possible. 4. Join us on your journey to doing more of what you love! Loans & Allowances If you re enrolled in full-time study then rest assured - all our full-time courses qualify for Student Loans and Student Allowances through StudyLink. Many part-time courses qualify too. Student Loans help you meet costs while you re studying, including fees, course-related costs and living expenses, depending on the course. Be aware that you will need to repay it once you finish study. Student Allowances are also available to help eligible full-time students with living expenses; they do not have to be repaid.
