Additionally, Sixth Form students can access the system through the BYOD (Bring your own device) wireless network inside school. To access the system you will need to follow the instructions shown below. Although the system is primarily designed to be accessed by Microsoft operating systems, Macintosh users can also access the system using a different method described in Remote Desktop Services User Instructions for Macintosh or ipad which can be found on the School Website. As this system involves new technologies, the specification for a computer to be able to access it is as follows: Operating Systems: Windows 10 Windows 8/8.1 Windows 7 Windows Vista Internet Browser: Internet Explorer version 7.0 or later. It is recommended that you utilise Internet Explorer 11 for the best experience. (Please note Remote Desktop Services is not compatible with Firefox, Chrome, Safari etc). Important notes for Internet Explorer 10 + 11 and Windows 8/Windows 10 users: 1. If you are using Internet Explorer 10 or 11 you need to ensure the Remote Desktop Services webpage is placed in Compatibility View. To do this please tick the Compatibility View option under the tools menu. If you do not click this option the Icons will not display correctly. 2. If you are using Windows 8, please ensure you open Internet Explorer from the desktop and not from the Metro start screen. 3. If you are using Windows 10 please ensure you utilise Internet Explorer for Remote Desktop services and not Microsoft Edge. If the Internet Explorer icon does not appear in your start menu, type Internet Explorer into the search bar on your taskbar. Right click on the Internet Explorer icon and select Pin to Start.
Adding the site to Compatibility View: Remote Desktop Client If you are using Windows Vista operating system you will need to install the latest Remote Desktop Client software, which can be obtained from the following website: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969084 Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the relevant download that applies to your computer. This is only a very small download. Please ensure you have administrator rights to install software before you download.
To access the Remote Desktop services website, please go to the following link: https://www.salegrammarrd.co.uk/ (Please note the https and not http in the address). You will now be presented with the Sale Grammar School Remote Desktop Services Connection login page. Once you have entered those details, click the Sign In button. Please note the security options. You have an option to select This is a public or shared computer or This is a private computer. If you select option 1 your remote session will disconnect itself automatically after a period of 15 minutes inactivity. By selecting option 2 this will give you a longer period of inactivity before you are automatically logged off. This is in the region of 1 hour. It is recommended that if you want to leave your computer for a period of time that is over 15 minutes you logout of the remote session. Once signed in you will be presented with an alert box stating the webpage wants to run the following add-on: Please ensure you click on Allow for this. If you do not then you will not see the icons on the next page. Windows Vista users should note that the alert box may appear at the top of the page.
If you do not activate this you will see the following Active X error. You will now be presented with a screen showing you Remote Application Program icons. To access a virtual computer, double click on the Remote Desktop Icon.
You will now be presented with a Remote Desktop Connection box. Click on the Connect button. Once clicked a box will appear stating that it is initiating remote connection.
This part of the process can take a short time. Please be patient. Once a connection is made you will be presented with another login window: Please enter your details as you did to login initially, noting that you have to put sale\ before your username. You will now see another initiating connection page open.
Again this part of the process can take a short time. Please be patient. On completion you will now see the computer logging into a Remote virtual Computer. You are now signed into a virtual computer located on the school network. You can open selected applications as you would inside of school and save your documents to your normal school network drives.
