Treatment Programs The Westover Model of Care Substance Dependence Program 19 Days There is help for you or a loved one. The treatment program at Westover provides the tools you need to restore real life functioning, discover alternative interests, establish boundaries and gain the motivation to maintain abstinence. Phase 1: Intake, Assessment, Stabilization Westover pledges to help you the day you call! Our intake staff will: Remain in contact with you until admission Conduct an initial interview Suggest stabilization needs (detox, housing, or pre-treatment support) Direct clients where to obtain an assessment in Ontario Our intake staff will work with your specific needs in order to help you feel at ease and ensure your work towards sobriety is successful and satisfying. Phase 2: Residential Programs Westover offers co-educational programs based on cognitive and behavioural models coupled with the power of group dynamics. We foster examination of personal values. We teach healthy, disciplined habits of routine and rest, work, diet and play. We help clients accept responsibility for behaviour, express feelings appropriately, learn to problem solve, and examine perceptions of reality. Our model of care includes: Relapse Prevention Rational Self Counseling 12 Steps Mindfulness Therapy Educational Sessions Stop for Smoking Individual Counseling Phase 3: Continuing Care Through Aftercare The journey to an addiction free lifestyle requires ongoing support for an extended period of time. Participation in aftercare makes a huge difference in maintaining abstinence. Aftercare sessions are offered in Thamesville, London, Sarnia, Windsor, Tiverton and Goderich, with affiliations in Cambridge and Toronto. Phase 4: Follow-Up Westover endeavours to contact all clients who complete the residential programs at 1, 6 and 12 months to determine how our clients are doing. Engaging clients in follow-up offers opportunities to project Westover s continuing care program. This has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much in the past three weeks. I felt very much at home here, and have bonded with people. I feel confident in my recovery and I will take all my tools l ve learned from Westover on my new life journey.
Admission to Westover Two Options Westover offers several treatment options that address addiction to alcohol, illicit drugs and prescription medications. Admission to Funded Programs Residential Substance Dependence Program (19 days) Clients are admitted weekly and: 16 years of age and older who suffer from substance abuse Assessed by an assessment and referral agency as having a substance abuse problem Demonstrate a willing commitment to change Interested in seeking abstinence Family Residential Program (6 days) Willingness to change Adhere to client medication guidelines Waiting periods from assessment to admission is normally 6-8 weeks for the Substance Dependence Program and usually 4-6 weeks for the Family Program. Programs & Services What About You? Family Program For friends and family affected by someone s addiction, Westover offers a six-day residential program (16 years of age and older). We offer family members and friends a safe, supportive environment to learn about the effects of addiction, stress management and available resources. Westover considers addiction to be a family issue Co-dependence is a condition where family members, or friends close to an addicted person, adapt to dysfunction in the family by developing patterns of living, which are detrimental to them personally (one in three may be affected) Weekend Program Westover offers a weekend program for family and friends of clients in the Residential Substance Dependence Program. Addiction Assistance Services - 1-800-721-3232 Westover counselors are available 24/7 to all Ontario residents via phone for crisis, counseling, information on community services, and intervention. Crisis intervention and screening for residential withdrawal management Emergency transportation to residents in Lambton-Kent or Essex to Withdrawal Management Phone support and referral to self-help groups and community services for alcohol and drug treatment Westover is centrally located and a good fit for the group I work with at my company. I am impressed with their willingness to work with families.

Primary Care access through the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres Mental Health Crisis Service access through the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and Four Counties Health Services (Newbury) Westover is a member of the tele-health network (OTN) giving us the capability to connect with Emergency crisis services of Schedule 1 Hospitals Health Science Centres and Tertiary Care Community Health Centres Family Health Teams Community Care Access Centres Our Facility Founded in 1982 by a family affected by addiction, Westover started in a century-old threestory home on 1½ acres located in Thamesville, Ontario. Today, Westover boasts a full-size gymnasium, sunlit meeting rooms, fitness areas, three kitchens, and relaxed living spaces without media interruption. We offer a safe, secluded, nurturing non-institutional setting uniquely suited to the holistic nature of our family centred treatment program. Meals are served in our dining room and expertly prepared by our Culinary Chef. All clients reside in gender-specific halls in spacious double occupancy rooms. Westover is internationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Westover s funded programs flow from the Ontario Ministry of Health through the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN). Westover was an amazing experience for me all in all.
