4 extended care Balboa Horizons Extended Care Treatment continues to build upon the foundation established in a primary care program to ensure lasting recovery. In this stage of treatment, clients continue to focus on their personal recovery while addressing their dual diagnosis needs. In Extended Care, clients are given the opportunity to implement their tools for sobriety while participating in community activities and 12-step meetings. Our structured environment allows clients to gain confidence in their recovery and build skills for lasting success. Residential Balboa Horizons programs are designed to create a solid foundation for recovery. The intensive program focuses exclusively on recovery and wellness as each client attends regular groups, meetings and therapy sessions. 6 Transitional Living Outpatient The Intensive Outpatient Program emphasizes balance as the key to lasting sobriety. The program provides a step-up in support for individuals still struggling with an addiction or a step-down for those transitioning from a higher level of care. The programs are flexible, allowing clients to continue with everyday activities such as work, school or family commitments. Our goal is to minimize the stress of everyday life by teaching clients how to effectively balance personal life with recovery. Because the first few months of recovery are often the most challenging after leaving extended care, we provide transitional living programs to help our clients reenter mainstream life. In transitional living, clients are encouraged to engage in the community and learn to balance their therapeutic commitments with everyday obligations such as employment, school or volunteer work. Clients continue to gain confidence in their recovery within a supportive treatment environment, as they are required to attend daily 12-step meetings and participate in ongoing case management. Services including life coaching, resume building and interview training are provided to ensure the best possible chance for success. Drug testing is conducted on a regular basis to maintain a safe environment for our clients.

7 Balboa Horizons understands that academic progress is often a casualty of addiction. We are proud to offer a program for students looking to begin or continue their educations while learning to sustain a sober lifestyle. We provide oneon-one counseling to support each client in achieving their academic goals with services including: > Academic Counseling > College Application Assistance > Transportation to and from campus > Registration Assistance > Tutoring / Study Time > Life Skills Counseling Family The damage that addiction causes a family system is devastating. At Balboa Horizons, we work to repair this damage by encouraging families to participate in the treatment process through education and therapy. We believe that families who are informed about addiction and recovery are better equipped to understand and support their loved ones both during and after treatment. Furthermore, we recognize that family members will often need their own recovery to heal from the personal effects of addiction as well. Family involvement will vary depending on each client s individualized treatment plan, but generally includes progress updates and family therapy sessions. Balboa Horizons also offers a monthly Multifamily Workshop, where families are invited to spend a three day weekend with us participating in educational groups. The goal of the Family Program at Balboa Horizons is to improve communication, build support and facilitate healing in the family system. We were so impressed with the staff at Balboa.
