1 Beginning Recovery from Chemical Dependence Residential Chemical Dependence Program 19 Days There is help for you or a loved one. The treatment program at Westover provides the tools you need to restore real life functioning, discover alternative interests, establish boundaries and gain the motivation to maintain abstinence. Phase 1: Intake, Assessment, Stabilization Westover pledges to help you the day you call! Our intake staff will: + Remain in contact with you until admission + Conduct an initial interview + Suggest stabilization needs (detox, housing, or pre-treatment support) + Direct clients where to obtain an assessment in Ontario Our intake staff will work with your specific needs in order to help you feel at ease and ensure your work towards sobriety is successful and satisfying. Phase 2: Residential Program Westover offers a co-educational program based on cognitive behavioural models coupled with the power of group dynamics. We foster examination of personal values. We teach healthy, disciplined habits of routine and rest, work, diet, and play. We help clients accept responsibility for behaviour, express feelings appropriately, learn to problem solve, and examine perceptions of reality. Our model of care includes: + Relapse Prevention + Rational Self Counselling + 12 Steps + Mindfulness Therapy + Educational Sessions + Smoking Cessation + Individual Counselling Phase 3: Continuing Care Through Aftercare The journey to an addiction free lifestyle requires ongoing support for an extended period of time. Participation in Aftercare makes a huge difference in maintaining abstinence. Aftercare sessions are offered in Thamesville, London, Sarnia, Windsor, Tiverton and Goderich, with affiliations in Cambridge and Oakville. Phase 4: Follow-Up Westover endeavours to contact all clients who complete the Chemical Residential Program at 1, 6, and 12 months to determine how our clients are doing. Engaging clients in follow-up offers opportunities to project Westover s continuing care program. This has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much in the past three weeks. I felt very much at home here, and have bonded with people. I feel confident in my recovery and I will take all my tools I ve learned from Westover on my new life journey.

2 Am I Co-Dependent? Residential Co-Dependence Program 6 Days For friends and family affected by someone s addiction, Westover offers a six-day residential program (16 years of age and older). We offer family members and friends a safe, supportive environment to learn about the effects of addiction, stress management and available resources. + Westover considers addiction to be a family issue + Co-dependence is a condition where family members, or friends close to an addicted person, adapt to dysfunction in the family by developing patterns of living, which are detrimental to them personally (one in three may be affected) Phase 1: Intake and Assessment Westover pledges to help you the day you call! Our intake staff will: + Remain in contact with you until admission + Conduct an initial interview + Provide clients with assessment paperwork Our intake staff will work with your specific needs in order to help you recover from the harmful effects of living in a chemically dependent environment. Phase 2: Residential Program Through lectures, videos and interaction, with the strong support of your group members. Feelings are explored and communicated. You will be given instructions and training on a variety of life skills, including assertiveness, communication, defense mechanisms and anger management. Our model of care includes: + 12 Steps + Mindfulness Therapy + Educational Sessions + Rational Self Counselling + Individual Counselling Phase 3: Continuing Care Through Aftercare Aftercare sessions are offered in Thamesville, London, Windsor and Sarnia as an extension to the Residential Program. Phase 4: Follow-Up A survey is sent out to clients 6 months after they ve completed the Co-Dependence Program. Engaging clients in follow-up offers opportunities to project Westover s continuing care program. Westover Treatment Centre offers good programs. Many are truly innovative. For instance, I really like the 12-step based program and the aftercare. Overall, it s the best program in Ontario.

3 Stage 2 Relapse Prevention Residential Stage 2 Recovery and Program 6 Days Addiction is recognized as a life-long disorder with the constant risk of relapse. This program will be beneficial to anyone who has been through a rehabilitation program and needs further assistance. Phase 1: Intake and Assessment Westover pledges to help you the day you call! Our intake staff will: + Provide potential clients with assessment paperwork + Remain in contact with you until your admission Our intake staff will work with you to improve your health and well-being to continue your recovery from substance abuse. Phase 2: Residential Program This intensive 6-day residential program will give the individual an opportunity to gain new lifestyle skills and insights into how sobriety can be maintained. Our model of care includes: + 12 Steps + Introspective Journaling + Individual Counselling + Informative Videos + Group Therapy Phase 3: Continuing Care Through Aftercare The journey to an addiction free lifestyle requires ongoing support for an extended period of time. Participation in Aftercare makes a huge difference in maintaining abstinence. Aftercare sessions are offered in Thamesville, London, Sarnia, Windsor, Tiverton and Goderich, with affiliations in Cambridge and Oakville. Phase 4: Follow-Up Westover endeavours to contact all clients who complete the Stage 2 Recovery Program at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. 4 Admission to Westover Two Options Admission to Funded Programs All of our residential programs require clients to be 16 years of age or older and to adhere to our client medication guidelines. Residential Substance Dependence Program 19 days Clients are admitted weekly and: + Assessed by an assessment and referral agency as having a substance abuse problem + Interested in seeking abstinence Residential Co-Dependence Program 6 days + Willingness to change + Have one year sobriety if an addict/alcoholic Stage 2 Recovery and Relapse Prevention Program 6 days + Must have completed a residential treatment program + Having difficulties maintaining sobriety + 4 to 6 months of life experiences since leaving treatment Waiting periods from assessment to admission is normally 6-8 weeks for the Substance Dependence Program and 4-6 weeks for the Co-Dependence Program. We do not have official wait times for the Stage 2 Recovery Program as this is a pilot project. I appreciate that there are no wait times. I like that its close to home, offers high-quality programs and includes a family program. There are good outcomes.

5 Other Services What About You? Weekend Family Program Westover offers a weekend program for family and friends of clients in the Residential Substance Dependence Program. This program consists of 4 days over 2 weekends while the client is in house. Family and friends will receive information about this program by mail and can reserve a spot by calling our treatment centre at (Westover does not provide overnight accommodations for these weekends). 4th and 5th Step Weekends Westover offers 4th and 5th weekends to all alumni of the 6-day Residential Co-Dependence Program. These weekends are booked on a in-demand basis and usually occur about 6 times per year. This program is by private pay only, and includes 2 nights accommodation and all meals. This is an opportunity to receive structured support of the 12-step program for steps 1-6, including personal inventory and spiritual awareness. For more information please contact Vicki Visnapuu at or by at vickiv@cogeco.ca Addiction Assistance Services Westover counsellors are available 24/7 to all Ontario residents via phone for crisis, counselling, information on community services, and intervention. + Crisis intervention and screening for residential withdrawal management + Emergency transportation to residents in Lambton-Kent or Essex to Withdrawal Management + Phone support and referral to self-help groups and community services for alcohol and drug treatment Aftercare Program Westover s Aftercare Program is available to all clients who have completed the 19 day Residential Chemical Dependence Program, the 6 day Residential Co-Dependence Program and the 6 day Stage 2 Recovery Program. Participation in our Aftercare Programs makes a huge difference in maintaining abstinence and self-care. Please see our brochure for Aftercare Program locations and times. Westover is centrally located and a good fit for the group I work with at my company. I am impressed with their willingness to work with families.
